I love the Culinare one touch can opener, I am really getting fed up of having to buy a new one each year though.
The product itself is sturdy and would probably last 5 years or more, except for one tiny component, the screw you have to turn when it stalls because the batteries have run out. Its made of plastic and just not meant to take the strain of a screw driver being used on it against the strain of the motor and the weight of whatever can is hanging off it when you turn the screwdriver.
I have at present a 'One Touch can opener' that is stuck onto a can of beans, with an expensive set of re-chargable batteries in it, that will now be consigned to the bin, yet again, because the crosshead hole for a screwdriver has worn to a smooth circle.
If you are like me and only remember to change the batteries when they do run out, then be prepared to need a new opener every year. Built in obsolescence anyone?
