This item is excellent. You can change batteries whilst it is attached to the tin, which I couldnt do with my old one, and had to wrestle with it to try get it off when batteries ran out half way round opening the tin - A very difficult and dangerous operation. So I am very pleased with this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars defective tin opener sent out 20 Feb 2012
ordered this with some excitement having read all the reviews. had to wait a little while to receive it, only to find that it did not open the tin. it kept stopping and starting and we had a lot of problems to get it to go all the way round, at which time there was a problem getting it off the tin. was extremely disappointed. it really isn't fit for purpose and i won't be using it again. furthermore, it burnt out two sets of batteries that came out red hot. having informed the company of my bad experience, i was firstly given a ticket number, then given a link to return it, at my own expense, unopened ready for resale! perhaps, thats how i got it in the first place. the first culinaire i had was brilliant - it was cheaper than this one and it lasted for over 3 years. thought i would get the best possible one i could find - but this is a big let-down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems to do the job 10 Jan 2012

Having read reviews about the old Culinaire can openers I was reluctant to buy one but thought I'd try this one as it had been given better reviews. Having now used it a few times its easy to use and as I can only use one hand I've found it makes opening tins very easy. All that you need to do is locate the opener on the rim of the tin so that the cutter fits either side of it and press the button for a second or two and remember not to lift the opener off the tin before its stopped otherwise you'll have to use the reset button on the bottom to complete the cycle before you can use it again. Hoping this will give me years of good service

5.0 out of 5 stars Best so far 14 Feb 2012
By JimE
Having purchased all makes n sizes of can openers in the past for my 89yr old mother in law -this is the best by far. others have not done the job , have broken gearing within a few days or tend to jam onto tin when battery runs down and you risk injury getting it off lid to replace batteries , or are simply slow and noisy.
This one- make sure you have the latest 'mini' version is excellent and battery replacement is at end of appliance so can be replaced if fail whilst opening a can.
Delivery excellent

5.0 out of 5 stars Fixes the problems of the old model 26 Nov 2011
This model is a much-needed update to the old One Touch model, which was terrible. This one has fixed the problems, and is now very much worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can it open. 7 Mar 2012
This was purchased to replace an electric can opener which lived on the workspace in the kitchen, I thought that this would be a suitable alternative, I have found it to be very easy to use and despite the fact that it sometimes sounds as if it is not going to make it, it always does, it makes a very neat job, and is easy to store, battery life on duracell batteries is very good, I would guess that I have opened 20 cans without so far changing batteries.

When my last manual can opener died (after only a couple of tins!), I started to seriously consider what my next move should be.
I cook a lot and one of my most frequently used ingredients are canned tomatoes, so I cannot really do without a can opener.
Is it just me or do anyone else out there share my complete failure in finding a reliable can opener? I'm on my 5th this year, and I am beginning to conspire that they are deliberately made incredibly poorly just so that we keep buying new ones...

My options were either to get another manual one, but without any moving parts (like the really retro ones), or go buy an automatic one.

After making the obligatory week long research and reading around 7000+ reviews (joys of internet), but especially upon watching a video of a similar item at work, I was sold on the automatic idea.

I went for this newer, smaller model.
I received the item very soon after ordering, and couldn't wait to get home to give it a good try.

This thing works like a dream, like a charm!
I'm in love!

You just put it on top of the can, and like a little robotic hamster it walks around it to reveal a perfectly cut lid, which helpfully sticks to a tiny magnet under its belly, which you then just gently pick and bin.

No more starting with a dodgy can opener and finishing by stabbing the tin with your best knife, ending up drenched in whatever is in the tin, and with a now damaged knife. No more puddles of mess on the workbench, or the splash-back. No more sharp, jaggedy edges. No more hurt wrists and fingers.

I'm of course yet to see if it is going to last, but promise - I'll be back to update in a couple of months.

So far, so great!

UPDATE: Lowering to 2 stars as can opener now dead before its batteries...

My first Culinaire one touch opener lasted a year or two, and although others had bad experiences with it, mine worked relatively well, so when it packed in, I bought another one. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work on most cans.
Battery life is poor - fresh batteries last only for a short time before the opener stalls half way round the can.

4.0 out of 5 stars good product
A good replacement for an earlier version of the same make. It meets the needs providing the container is of a standard shape and construction.

5.0 out of 5 stars battery tin opener
Pardon the pun but it does exactly what it says on the tin. I'm disabled so it's great for me. Would recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars This item has never arrived!!!
I have no idea if this can opener works as it has never arrived and I cannot get any response from Cairn E store, who I will never bother with again.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not to be recommended
Basically first one wouldn't work at all and the second one works in fits and starts. I do not recommend.
