First it must be made clear that this is a huge book - too big; the publishers would have done better to split it into two for ease of handling and to reduce the wear and tear on the spine. It includes recipes from all around the Mediterranean including many from north Africa and Turkey. Interesting as these may be, I'm not sure how practical they are in terms of ingredients - unless you live in London! Nor am I sure how many of them will be to everybody's taste - too many fishy ones for me. Aimed at the US market - ie cilantro for coriander (horrible soapy-tasting weed either way!), porgy, rutabaga etc which I guess we can cope with. As a book of reference yes; as a practical cook book no.

Having had plenty of trips to the mediterranean in my youth I really wanted a cook book that recipes from Spain and Greece. Whilst I found plenty of recipe books that had one or the other Culinaria Mediterranea offered an extensive compilation of recipes from Spain, Greece and Italy! There are a vast amount of recipes within the book and the pictures of each dish mean that you are able to easily check that the recipe looks like it should! All the recipes I have cooked are really tasty and the book is excellent value for money. You don't need to be a fantastic chef to cook the recipes as they are all very straightforward and usef friendly. There are some that are slightly more challenging and I have found that I have been able to use the skills and techniques used with these recipes in other cooking as well. I would definitely recommend Culinaria Mediterranea for any budding, amateur or established chef!

Bought this book recently and have been rifling throught the recipes. Has a lot to choose from different countries' cuisines not only from the 'European' side of the Med but also from North Africa all the way across to Morocco on the Western side. I particularly loved the seafood recipes although it has some mouth-watering meat dishes included too (could have done with some more barbecue-style recipes though!) - all from chefs from each of the regions. Great sweet dishes too. Nice fat book for a reasonable price - would make a great gift for Mediterranean cooking enthusiasts!
