Simply amazing! 11 May 2010

For a pocket-sized book, there are a TON of wonderful recipes packed in it! As a French teacher, I love having the French edition of the book, but even in English, the recipes are relatively simple to follow for a moderate-level cook. It is also great to have older recipes that are harder to find in newer cookbooks. My favorite section of the book is the part with pastry recipes, as I have found it difficult to find recipes that are not all complicated for someone still learning the ropes. All in all, it is a great cultural experience to read, make, and enjoy real French cuisine!

This is a CLASSIC and a MUST have for anyone who is into french cooking. Move over jacque Pepin, this is what real french people eat and this book has been around for YEARS and has been translated around the world.

Ordered this to replace my original edition from the late 1960's. Have enjoyed so many receipes in it+ the old one[paperback] was falling apart.
If you're willing to wade through the French, you will be rewarded... 27 Nov. 2013

I am not a French speaker, sadly. Yet, I love this book. The main thing that it gives are metric weights for all recipes, not just baking. It can sometimes be difficult to figure out what the procedure is, but that's part of the fun. So many classic recipes, and made as simple as possible, but no simpler. The English edition, edited by my beloved Clotilde Dusoulier, is converted to American units, but I like the slim French volume.
Simple and precise recipes for the everyday cook. 6 April 2013

I read of this book in a French-language novel. I did cursory research on the author (Mathiot) and found that she is legendary in France, so I thought it was a must-have cook book. I have cooked two recipes thus far, both with success. They are simple and great for everyday use. She wastes nothing.
