Over several decades I have owned many slow cookers. The Cuisinart 6.5 litre Slow Cooker is absolutely fabulous! It does everything it should, you can set the time for it to cook and how your want it to cook, and if you are delayed returning home then the Cuisinart automatically switches to 'Keep Warm' and it does this perfectly. Its easy to operate and the results are perfection itself.

My first Slow Cooker was a Kenwood which I loved but gave to my daughter, I then purchased a Tower - it was dreadful burnt the food; this was then replaced by the £49. Crock pot, which again very badly burn the food. Having read and heard how good the Lakeland slow cooker was supposed to be, I bought one of those earlier this year. Again it burnt the food and then the handle on the outside just broke off for no apparent reason.

I was quite determined to get a better replacement, which would do everything I wanted and not burn the food! I researched the subject on various web sites and read the customer feedback on Amazon and decided to order the 6.5 litre digital Cuisinart. When it arrived I couldn't wait to try it out! It is absolutely superb! Definitely the best slow cooker I have ever owned, and although we are only two members of our household now, I usually make at least four portions and freeze a the left overs to have another day!

This is quite the most superior slow cooker on the market, it is superbly made and is a real quality item, well worth the extra! You will not be disappointed!

I should also like to recommend to you the paperback recipe book entitled 'Classic 1000 Slow Cooker Recipes by Sue Spitler, which I also bought from Amazon. Although there are no illustrations its a great compendium of everything that can be slow cooked.

This is my first slowcooker so i dont have anything to compare to.

+ many heat settings, simmer, low and high this is mor then the most, i think that the simmer could be really usefull for longer cooking times
+ works without any problems
+ nice looking and easy to clean of.

- the lid does not fit perfectly. you need to check so you dont leave a small gap.
- it gets really hot (hurts to touch), maybe this is a general slowcooker thing i dont know..
- i think someone said the cord is attachable.. it is not..

Considering the choice of slow cookers available, the only significant plus about this slow cooker is the programmable timer which is quite useful. That is assuming there will be no power interruption (which can happen once in a while for maintenance by power companies or due to some incidents) otherwise your timed cooking program will be gone and no ready meal to come home to is a possibility as the timer has no backup memory. This is a bit disappointing as timer circuits nowadays have backup as a standard with built-in battery that lasts over 10 years. This timer loses its program on momentary power interruption (doesn't even have a cheap capacitive charge memory to retain a momentary off-on).

Our current slow cooker is the Crockpot SCV655 Slow Cooker which we bought from elsewhere and still doing great after nearly 6-year service. We bought this Cuisinart slow cooker (exact same capacity as the Crockpot SCV655 at 6.5-litre) when the price was right (currently half the normal price) and with the realisation that slow cookers don't last for ever - so a nice backup should the long serving Crockpot call it a day.

Here is a comparative review of the Cuisinart PSC650U and the Crockpot SCV655:

1) the only advantage of the Cuisinart slow cooker is the programmable timer. Note that the timer program will be lost even if there is a momentary mains interruption (was tested with a quick switch off-on).

2) the Crockpot ceramic overhangs the metallic base rim; this is very desirable in case there is spillage although this may be rare rather than the norm with normal recommended usage.

I've 3 of these slow cookers for 2 months now. They are PERFECT. The timer function is spot on. The keep warm function is fabulous. Product is easy to clean and the materials used are GREAT!

One small thing. The blue backlight of the timer makes it hard to read from a distance. I have perfect vision but this backlight makes you stare.
Also as a sugestion. Maybe the three low medium high modes should have different color leds so you can tell from a distance which is what.

I LOVE slow cooking!

This is s sturdy, well-built product - maybe the glass lid could be fitted better, so as to avoid any steam leaks, and also to keep it in place a bit better. The timer is super-simple to use, and so is the whole unit. In some instances, it would be helpful to see the original amount of hrs one set it for - this is not visible after the countdown starts, only the remaining time is. A clock would be a nice touch too...but I know, I am nit-picking. The unit is safe, does not heat up much. I'd wish the electric chord to be a few feet longer though, it is pretty short. As far as slow cookers go, this is a top-notch product!
