A LOT OF CLEANING, DISMANTLING, AND THE THING DOESN'T EVEN WORK PROPERLY!, 26 Jan 2008
Dear oh dear. My husband bought me this ice cream maker for Christmas and it has given me nothing but grief. The ice cream doesn't pour out like it should - it freezes at the bottom hole too quickly, so the rest of the ice cream that is turning in the basin is soft serve, but it can't come out of the bottom because it's rock hard! The parts fit in very well and slot into place easily - but of course, they slot OUT of place easily too and the amount of times things have popped out (especially if I'm picking the unit up to move it) and crashed onto the floor has just driven me crazy! It's a pain as well to have to individually wash each piece, as when (and if) the ice cream does come out of the hole, there are several pieces that it touches, which all need dismantling and washing. This is a high maintenance ice-cream machine and really not worth the money. Buy a cheaper one, have your sprinkles, nuts, etc, in a separate bowl and sprinkle it with a spoon, and just have your ice-cream the easy way.

Wasn't sure what to expect....., 19 April 2009
Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker
OK, I love Mr Whippy ice cream, I know it's not gourmet but something about it is just yum!! My husband looked into buying me some sort of machine (with 2 very keen nieces and a nephew saying yes please!) however the only kind we could find was a huge, in size and cost, machine that would never be suitable. Imagine my delight when my sister spotted this machine - Mr Whippy from a kitchen sized machine, and less than £100 to boot...oh yes!
I could only find the two reviews shown on Amazon and they couldn't have been more apart if they tried, but I thought, what the heck, it must be worth a go at the very least.
I have now made 3 batches of vanilla ice cream and one of the chocolate and this is my findings..
The amount of vanilla essence they suggest is insane, it's far too much, we now are putting in no more than about 1/2 tsp for a full batch of vanilla and, once frozen, the chocolate tastes a little less chocolatey than when it's the fresh Mr Whippy type being freshly pumped out of the machine, however......WOW.....the vanilla tastes just like Mr Whippy - honestly it's gorgeous!
The ice-cream comes out silky smooth and incredibly rich(that could be the 450ml of double cream!!), in fact I am going to try and make it with just full fat milk not the milk/cream combo as my brother in law can't quite take that much cream, fingers crossed.
As for the matter of cleaning the machine, I loathe washing fiddly bits of machinery but I must say I have cleaned it twice now myself and it wasn't that bad to be honest. The curly mixer that attaches to the lid comes out if you are firm but careful. I rinse under hot water to melt all the remaining ice cream (after spooning off any residual) and then use soapy water, a final rinse and drip dry onto a t-towel. We decided to not use the sprinkles dispenser as we prefer sprinkles as a topping rather than in the actual ice cream, so there are only about 4 or 5 bits to clean so it's not too arduous.
One thing not in the book, although now it seems very obvious, is that you don't turn off the machine when you pull down the handle to dispense the ice-cream but it didn't take being a rocket scientist to turn it off, see that it didn't work and turn it back on, hey presto!
The hardest thing, apart from making and eating this stuff all day, was judging when the ice cream was ready to be dispensed. If you leave it too late the ice cream will, of course, continue to thicken as it says in the book, I am wondering whether just turning it off in between each cone/bowl will help reduce the speed with which it thickens, but to be honest, we didn't care, it tastes fantastic, the machine doesn't look half bad either and the children can't believe their luck!!
I am incredible glad that we bought this machine ready for summer and am already looking to buy a second bowl for the freezer so that we can have more than one batch or a larger group catered for in one sitting!
Highly recommended.

Lots of Fun, 21 Jan 2009
This is a must for Childrens Parties as is so much fun to use and such a joy to watch for youngsters and they can mix in their own personal selection of sprinkles from the dispensers by pulling out the tabs.
i did not find it at all difficult to use and followed the instructions and had no problems like the last reviewer experienced. Also cleaning wise I put all the little bits into the dishwasher and it was fine.
Such a fun product, I love it!
