5.0 out of 5 stars best thing since sliced bread, 29 Jan 2009
Since I left home some 22 years ago, I have always possessed a slow cooker. It has always taken pride of place in my kitchen - from the bedsit to my family home at present. As my family has grown, so has the slow cooker.

This one is superb - looks great and is a great size. This replaces the Morphy Richards model I previously had - the control knobs were hanging off at the end of it's life - having survived a mere 2 years.

This model looks and feels robust, with clear and easy to use controls. The instruction booklet is excellent with some great recipe ideas. I tend to use it to cook two chickens at once - no water or stock required, just bung the chickens in, switch on at low for about 5 hours or until the smell drives you mad. Then remove chickens carefully. I say carefully as you will find that the super tender meat literally falls off the bones.

Great appliance, wouldn't be without it and can thoroughly recommend it!

    5.0 out of 5 stars I love it, 22 April 2009
I love this slow cooker. It looks great on the worktop, is robust and cooks great food. I frequently use it for whole joints - it does a great chicken or coca cola ham as well as casseroles and stews.
The capacity is huge and its on the big side for us (2 adults and 3 small children) but I do a lot of batch cooking and some entertaining and its absolutely perfect for that. Even if I'm just cooking for the family I just adjust the cooking times to suit the smaller recipe size. I'm certainly glad for the capacity and wouldn't have wanted anything smaller.
I love the convenience of chucking everything in the slow cooker and wandering off. Its even got a glass lid so you can see what's going on.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Rolls Royce of slow cookers, 18 Oct 2009
By Mrs. K. M. Mcgrory (UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
I bought this to replace my 6.5l Morphy Richards slow cooker which was a year old. Over the years I have owned several slow cookers but none compare to this beast! My Morphy Richards one cooked very fast, had hot spots, the external casing became very hot and the knob on the lid was made of brittle plastic and broke very quickly. The Cuisinart slow cooker is everything the Morphy Richards was not. It is very smart and looks good on the worktop, if that is where you plan to leave it. It is extremely well insulated and the thick outer casing does not become overly hot. The ceramic pot is big enough to fit a whole chicken or leg of lamb easily. The feature I like most is the capability to use the slow cooker in one of two ways. Firstly you can use it like a 'normal' slow cooker by selecting your temperature (low or high in this case) and turning it on. The cooker will then cook at this temperature until you turn it off. Alternatively you can use the 'cook & hold' feature. This allows you to select the temperature as before and then set the timer for anything up to 8 hours, in half hour increments. Once the time you set has elapsed the slow cooker switches itself to 'hold' and keeps the food warm until you are ready for it. The first meal I made in it was a shoulder of lamb. I set the timer for 8 hours but it was actually about 13 hours before we sat down to eat. The lamb was perfect. My previous cooker would have drastically overcooked the meat had I left it this long. The recipe book that come with the slow cooker is pretty basic but I have found that to be the case with every slow cooker I have owned. This is also the first slow cooker I have had to come with a rack for lifting items off the base of the cooker. Whilst I have not used it yet I imagine this would be useful if you are cooking things that require a 'bain marie' or for steaming something like a Christmas pudding. Despite the price I would not hesitate to recommend this slow cooker - you definitely get what you pay for.
