5.0 out of 5 stars A stunning photographic collection of the UK's finest hills, 19 Mar 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Cuillin (Photography) (Hardcover)
No aficionado of the Cuillin should be without this on his or her shelf. As instant inspiration for all those who live all too distant from Skye, there is nothing finer. The photographic quality is incredible and Stainforth's ability to capture the eerie magic of the Cuillin only reinforces this. Perhaps most useful of all are the final pages, in which Stainforth provides a wonderfully detailed, step-by-step guide to the Great and Greater Traverses of the Black Cuillin Ridge. My completion of the former in a day, put simply, would have been impossible without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb photography and expert writings, 10 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Cuillin (Photography) (Hardcover)
Gordon is an expert climber and photographer, and his dedication to photographing these rugged mountains shows in this book. It is a superb volume of photographs and writing on the magnificent Cuillin ridge on the Isle of Skye, I struggle to put it down each time I look at it.

For climbers and walkers there are details on routes, including the Cuillin Ridge. For photographers there is a technical section which details film, lens, filter and even date and time of each image. Worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunningly beautiful book., 24 Nov 2009
By H. Pichette - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: The Cuillin (Photography) (Hardcover)
After spending many days up and down and in and around The Cuillins, I wanted to treat myself to a volume of photographs that do the range justice. It's an eerie but magical place. This book does it justice. You can tell the photogapher loves the area and is able to capture it's many moods and seasons. I can't imagine how he was able to do the climbs with his equipment under what must have been some terrible conditions.
It's been out of print for several years and I've been unable to find a copy in good condition at a reasonable price. Mine was bought for $70.00, which I think, is very fair for a book in such demand.(I've seen it sold at $200.00.)The seller, Park Place Books, was very honest, and very pleasant to deal with. I'm VERY pleased with my purchase and the service. (The book was an anniversary gift for my husband who had just returned from a climbing trip there.) Thank you.
