A Poem for Havana 7 May 2003
Format:Paperback
I took this book with me on my second trip to Havana. I am not usually a fast reader but almost finished it in the plane on the way there. I stopped because i wanted to save it, savour it. It is a really beautifully written book and Pico Ayer's writing shines like poetry. Though it was written in the eightees, it reflects the social and political conditions that exist in Cuba today, told around and aside a passionate romance. A wonderfull book to take to Cuba. Beautifull.

This book is dynamite - about both a love affair in Havana and a love affair with Havana. If you have actually been to Havana then this book takes you back there in an instant.

One of the best novels I have read this year. Pico Iyer is better known as a travel writer and many of the dialogues sound like they are taken from actual converstaions with Cubans. The book is highly recommended for anyone who is visiting Cuba and wants to know more about the attitudes of the locals and the way of life there.
