Bought this unit to connect to the battery of a car that I show in concours events which tends to be garaged all winter and used only occasionally during the rest of the year. When I first got the unit I charged up a battery that I was on the verge of throwing out but it seems to have resurrected it and it now works fine. I also charged another one for a mates van which had been giving him starting problems. Again the battery charged OK over 48 hours and has worked fine on his van for the last few weeks. It is presently permanently connected to my show car and keeps it topped up, just switching in if the voltage drops a bit and so keeps the battery fully charged. So far I am extremely impressed with this unit. The price was good and with the 5 year guarantee excellent value ( cheaper than replacing batteries ).

I have two of these - one permanently attached to car I keep garaged in France, and the other usually plugged into a TVR I keep garaged at home over winter. It is worth investing in the cigar lighter accessory if you can charge the battery this way (lighter needs to be on permanent feed, not disconnected when the ignition key is removed). Otherwise the unit somes with a neat little loom which you can permanently attach to your battery terminals. You connect the charger to this direct without requiring the crocodile clips. My car in France is 7 years old and on its original battery... If left on its own the TVR alarm system would drain the battery dead in 5 weeks of inactivity so I consider the cost of the charger well worth the initial investment!!

The older cars I have owned enabled a battery charger to be attached to the battery without disconnecting it from the car. All the newer cars insist upon the battery being disconnected first, to protect the CPU, which means having to reset such things as the radio every time. I searched for a product that would overcome this and have found the CTEK XS3600. I am delighted with it. Not only can it be connected to the battery without the above hassles, but it can be left on and will keep the battery topped up, giving peace of mind. I have not had to use it much, but so far it has worked very well, charging the battery quickly and leaving it in tip top condition.
