Product Description

Life was never easy for twelve-year-old amateur inventor James Lightwater, what with his feuding family and acres of schoolwork. But that is nothing compared to the secret quest he has been thrown into. Compelled to travel through time and space in a desperate effort to save the Earth from being overrun by a conspiracy of evil superhumans and their alien masters. But James has only a week left to complete his mission - to get the twelve sacred zodiac crystals of ancient Atlantis and destroy their power before the aliens get them first and use them to take over the world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant and fast paced, 28 Nov 2006

This review is from: Crystal Quest: Fires of Fury Pt. 2 (Paperback)
This is a fast paced exciting story with plenty of action. The children in my class thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted more. They could relate to the character of James and can't wait for part three.

2.0 out of 5 stars Twice the adventure, twice as much action!, 27 Nov 2006
This review is from: Crystal Quest: Fires of Fury Pt. 2 (Paperback)
I read the first part and thoroughly enjoyed it. While eagerly waiting for the second one, I was concerned that it could not deliver the same fast paced and easy-to-read style. I should not have been concerned. Part 2 is twice as long (for the same price) and twice as fast! It literally carries on where the first pert left off and plunges you into a rollercoaster of missions and time jumps back and forward to get more zodiac crystals before the aliens snatch them first. This time the author links each crystal with a real event in history (e.g. the night of the fire of London and how it really started! Or why and who built the first pyramids!)
The humour is also stronger in this part and balances it against the heightened drama. A nice touch is the hero's battles to keep control of his mind as the crystals become more powerful; relating it to a typical young boy type problem.
The author also elaborates on the more complex plots which lie behind the villains secret agenda. Part 2 puts meat on the bone and finishes with an unexpected twist. Definitely worth waiting for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fanastic book for all ages, 26 Nov 2006
This review is from: Crystal Quest: Fires of Fury Pt. 2 (Paperback)
This book gripped me right from the start. Although it is part 2, the author has written it in such a way that it is not essential to read part 1 first. Any key events from part 1 which the reader needs to know are skilfully woven into the plot of part 2.
What I like about this story is that, while it is action driven and clearly intended as a children's / young adult book, its style makes it equally appealing to adults as well. One level the characters are battling evil aliens and super villains, on another the young hero has to overcome equally pressing problems at home and school. By the end of the book it is clear that there is much more going on in the sub-plots than the main story line suggests. One level a straight forward sci-fi action thriller; on another a deeper battle of wills between good and evil. Definitely worth a read.
