Typically excellent 27 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have read a lot of Jo Goodman books and she never fails to disappoint. This is an excellent story and one that consumes you from beginning to end. Ashley Lynne is mistreated her whole life by her evil guardian Nigel (he has to be evil with a name like that!). She is being forced to marry some doddery old reprobate who is about 80 and does naughty things of a weekend even though he doesn't have any snap in his celery. As a consolation for marrying her off to some impotent old sod, Nigel will "allow" Ashley a night of passion with some young man who he hopes will mistreat her. Enter Salem McClellen...GRRR he is a stud from beginning to end so it is fitting that he comes from a stud farm in Virginia. Nigel and his girlfriend believe all Yanks to be barbarians and rapists so they are happy to give Ashley to their visitor. However (of course) things do not go to plan and Salem, instead of ravishing the skinny, beautiful, innocent, wide-eyed and altogether sweet impoverished ward wisely decides to rescue her. Ahhh but who ends up rescuing who? DA DA DAAAAAAA

This is a bloody good read and made all the better because Ms Goodman does not spend 3 quarters of the book making her main protagonists argue and bicker without a bit of hanky panky. No with Ms Goodman you get them going at it like rabbits for the most part from the start. That's how I like it and if you do then I recommend this and also Rae McClellen and Jericho's story (now that Jericho.....)

Good love story 3 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Crystal Passion is a re-release of a series that Jo Goodman released years ago. The author of The Thorne brothers trilogy and the Dennehey sisters series.

The first in this series is about Ashley Lynne and Salem McCellan. When Salem visits England, he is surprised to find a beautiful girl in his bed. Assuming she is the "evening entertainment" he plans to seduce her. Immediately he finds that he has been set up and Ashley is not there at her own free will, but at her evil uncle's insistance. Planning to rescue her, Salem doesn't count on her actually rescuing him from prison and escorting him back to Virginia.

During the voyage to Virginia the two fall in love, but Ashley belives that Salem is her brother. The two realize they are not related, get married and the Revolutionary war begins.

Crystal Passion is a good book, but just doesn't have the "passion" that is found in many of Jo Goodman's other novels. If you're a fan of Jo Goodman, this is a good book to read. Jo Goodman is true to her writing style by combining a great love story with great history.

First in a series of 3 books set during the American Revolution about the McClellan family. Follows the oldest brother, Salem, to England to rescue girl from evil uncle. Ms. Goodman is excellent at interweaving history and romance with a good plot. I couldn't put this book down until I had finished it. It also introduces characters for the other 2 books in the series, Seaswept Abandon about Rae, and Tempting Torment about youngest brother Noah. This book is must read for recent Jo Goodman fans.
