Book Description

31 July 2004 The Echorium sequence (Book 2)
Welcome to a world from another time. It is a world where the wind, the waves, and the land itself can be controlled by an unearthly music. A world where the forces of good and evil are held in harmony by the secret Songs of Power. A world on the brink of destruction, threatened by a dark lord whose evil knows no bounds. Two young heroes must rise to confront an evil power. Shaiala, a girl who has been raised by the centaurs, and Renn, a gifted but insecure Singer, must join together to face the forces of darkness. Only by trusting each other can they triumph.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant second book in the must read trilogy 12 Sep 2004
By Laura
This book takes place twenty years after Song Quest and answers the questions of what happened to everyone. The book introduces some more great characters, and brings back some old great ones. The fabulous characters of Kherron (one of my all time favourite characters), Frenn and Lazim travel with Renn, a novice singer who can talk to half creatures, and Shaiala, a wild girl brought up by centaurs who can only speak half creature. Their adventure takes them to another part of the brilliant world Katherine Roberts brings to life with her amazingly vidid discriptions and brings them face to face with the old enemy. The evil of the dark cystal is spreading and the singers must find a way to destroy it and free those it has corrupted. The new half creatures and human tribes she introduces are brimming with imagination and the action and adventure sucks you further into her beautifully pictured world. The way she brings back the old characters from the first book is great as you get to see what they're all like as adults, and the ending will leave you unable to do anything else but read the third. A truly addictive book you don't want to put down, and a book I'm sure I'll want to reread hundreds of times. It's a must read, though the books should be read in order, Song Quest, Crsytal Mask and Dark Quetzal, and don't worry if you think they're just for kids. I'm twenty and love them all to pieces. A MUST READ

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliantly brilliant read! 15 May 2002
By A Customer
This is a really excellent read. Song Quest was good, but this is just as brilliant, which is rare in series of books. This book is set 20 years after the events of Song Quest, and the new Second Singer of the Echorium is none other than the rebellious Kherron who was a novice in Song Quest. This follows the progress of Renn, Rialle's son, and Shaialla, the wild girl who kicks like a centaur and the new threat from the mainland - the power of the khiz crystal is growing again. There are many new characters in this book, including new half-creatures, as well as the old ones; Frenn, Kherron, Rialle and Lazim are all here, as well as someone more unwelcome who could destroy the Echorium. The plot is excellent and there are a few twists to the tale with regards to Renn's parentage and what happened after Song Quest. Read it - you won't be disappointed.
