This is a comprehensive teaching handbook and reference guide, the main focus of which is healing using crystal tools and the chakras. The author's compulsive anecdotal style leads the reader through some surprisingly intensive information with ease. The fundamentals are covered in depth, providing an accessible introduction to crystal healing, but there is also a wealth of unique information personal to the author's wide experience and insight which means that the book has much to offer the expert.
Although readers are encouraged to work with and explore crystals in conjunction with the book, it would nevertheless benefit from further illustration. There is a reasonably thorough coverage of the healing properties of the author's favoured crystals, resins and metals despite some unexpected omissions, such as diamond and Alexandrite.
A compelling section on crystal wands and their use, as well as pyramids and other crystal tools, differentiates this book from more traditional ones that describe crystals alone and there is also an indispensable guide to crystals in order of ailment. Marianna Sheldrake's book is absolutely indispensable - I've hardly put it down since buying it almost a year ago. As well as being a great guide for newcomers to the world of crystal healing, the more experienced healer will find that it's no nonsense approach and practical layout make it excellent for dipping into when your memory needs refreshed, or for a different perspective. Sheldrake presents her experiences and opinions in a much less overbearing way than most of her peers, and features a much greater variety of crystal types than most. My only complaint is that there isn't yet a 'Volume Two'!

Unlike many of the books out there, this is not just a list of the properties and uses of the many thousands of crystals. A few pages in, I could tell that this woman has a genuine affinity with these magical elements - they are not just "tools of the trade" for her. By the time I finished the last page, I felt privileged to have shared a small part of Marianna's life path and it made me examine many aspects of my life.If you are interested in using crystals for healing, she considers almost a hundred crystals - some with just a few notes but many in great depth, describing her own experiences and suggesting different methods to achieve the best results. There is a comprehensive chapter on which crystals can be used to treat particular conditions, usually with several options. The strong message that comes through every page is that there is no single "right way" when dealing with crystals - every practitioner, every patient, every ailment and even every crystal is different, as she says at the start it's all about keeping an open mind. As you would expect, there are chapters devoted to the care of crystals (and the healer), effective tools, configurations and diagnosis and she stresses throughout the importance of working in tandem with the recognised medical practitioners. This book explains in straightforward, easily accessible language, many of the holistic principles about auras, chakras and energies that every healer should be aware of and use to heal the underlying cause rather than symptoms. I think it is a must for the reference library of any type of healer.
