This is one of several recordings available (off the top of my head the others are: Chet's Chioce, Strollin', Live in Bologna, and Disc two of The Sesjun Radio Shows) by what is, for my money, the best regular band Baker led in any period of his career. Only Chet's Choice tops this one, and the two albums together make a brilliant pairing documenting this trio's interplay, warmth, subtlety, and fire.
As for this particular re-issue: the sound quality is faultless and I was happy to see the original album cover underneath the cardboard sleeve (pictured above). [This set of music was previously released under the title: Baker-Catherine-Rasinfosse]

I first heard this at a friends house. It was my first experience of Chet Baker`s music and I loved it so much that I searched record shops for about five years-it became my holy grail. I`ve still not heard much else by him so I don`t know if this is " good Chet" or " bad Chet". I do know that it`s recorded quite near to the end of his life (having just watched ".Let`s get lost") and that it`s one of my favorite records.

One of Chet's great trios 10 Feb. 2014
By Mike Tarrani - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
We all have favorites and this particular trio associated with Chet is mine. Ever since listening to Chet's Choice that also features Philip Catherine on guitar and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse on bass I have been snapping up every album with those two backing Chet.

What I love about this album is the intimacy of most of the tracks. Heck, even Cherokee comes across as intimate and therein lies the synergy of this trio. Listen to the sound samples and let those convince you. While I prefer Chet's Choice, this album is on my short list of favorites.

Although I normally do not listen to much guitar, I am mesmerized by Philip Catherine's playing. He is so locked into Chet that it's uncanny. Of course Jean-Louis Rassinfosse's bass is the pulse and glue that allows Chet to dispense with a drummer.

This album was recorded sometime in September, 1983 in Brussels, Belgium. Chet's playing during his last five years was hit or miss, but this (and every other album) that features this particular trio were all hits. This is not especially an essential album, but if you are a staunch fan you definitely want to consider it.

Fabulous Chet Baker he has been put down for not doing screech I don't like the screech stuff his notes are airy and right on for a mans voice emotionally deep and I love his style he just makes it his own Miles does not have anything on Chuck, they both play their hearts and I love both of them. This is great stuff guitar is worth it for a guitar player and the upright bass is fantastic also. My favorite track is Cherokee fabulous version. Chow not a big talker.
I GOTTA GIVE THIS 5 STARS 2 Aug. 2013

FIRST OF ALL, I WRITE IN CAPS FOR EVERYONE TO SEE EASIER. THAT SAID, WOW, WHAT A GREAT ALBUM AND WHAT A SURPRISE THIS ALBUM WAS. CHAMBER JAZZ OF THE HIGHEST ORDER. THE THING ABOUT PHILIP CATHERINE, HIS TONE IS ABSOLUTELY UNMISTAKABLE. IN BLUEGRASS, THEY SAY BILL MONROE HAD THAT HIGH LONESOME SOUND. WELL, I AM GOING TO BORROW A BIT FROM THAT. PHILIP CATHERINE HAS THAT LONESOME, LATE-AT-NIGHT SOUND. REALLY WONDERFUL! I AM SO PLEASED WITH THIS ALBUM AND BTW, CHET IS IN TOP FORM. A PERFECT COMPLIMENT TO PHILIP AND NO SINGING...JUST PLAYING. BUY IT AND ENJOY...YOU WILL DEFINITELY DIG THIS.
