Product Description

Product Description

This text offers practical information on the applications and use of the quartz crystal ball and modern crystal bowl as a magical tool. The book takes the ancient processes of divination and scrying out of the realm of the supernatural and places them in the domain of natural knowledge. It reveals why crystal balls and crystal bowls are dynamic instruments for transformation, and how they can be used to divine the future, the astral project, to connect the spirits, to heal and to balance the human energy system. The book explores their many functions, and reveals the secrets of vibrational energy, as well as its application for increasing intuition and activating creativity. Step-by-step, the reader can learn techniques for crystal gazing, scrying, attuning to spirit guides, developing clairvoyance, and healing. Crystal balls and crystal bowls are two powerful tools for opening to higher states of consciousness, and this book provides information on the "hows and whys" of them and aims to show how their magic can enhance the reader's life.

Ted Andrews's "Crystal Balls & Crystal Bowls" is a fantastically comprehensive book in two sections on crystal gazing through balls and bowls, and although it would be a little daunting as a first book for the newcomer to scrying, it is definitely a worthwhile addition to your library. I think Andrews's book is best considered as a reference book because it is so incredibly detailed and exceptionally thorough on both subjects. However, he writes in a very clear-cut fashion so nobody should feel that the book is a complicated or difficult read. Andrews details numerous exercises for developing your scrying abilities and his labyrinths are a useful and fascinating tool to that end. As a reference book Andrews cites many other authors and a varied collection of other works, and occasionally some of his own books, which is extremely helpful for further reading. He covers many topics including Chakra healing, aromatherapy and elixirs, and on the whole the book is well worth buying.

This book has wonderful exercises for the beginner and gives helpful hints to the experienced scryer also. The book not only discusses crystal balls and crystal bowls, but also touches on water divination and mirror gazing as well. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Overall the book is well presented and contains much information. It also has a much nicer cover than the one shown on Amazon. The book has several flaws however:

As is unfortunately so often the case with "new age" material, the vast majority of the statements made in the book are entirely unsubstantiated and read simply as the author's opinion. To take just one example of many: p211 "[the chakras] ... are actually small vortices of energy that are scientifically measurable" Great! But who measured them? Where? When? What were the results? Most of the references that are given are woolly and add little to support his statements, but a statement like this must be supported to retain credibility. No professional reference in any other field would get away with making such bald claims without then including the reference.

So, given the lack of substantiating evidence - and my ignorance of the field of scrying - I have to turn to the areas of which he speaks where I do have detailed knowledge. He talks about the physics of the energy of crystals (he gets this wrong), the theory of music (no Ted, C, D, E... is NOT a chromatic scale) and finally quantum physics (don't even get me started on the hash he makes of this). In all these areas it really looks as though Ted bought a "Bluffer's Guide" and didn't read past page five. Oh, did I mention that at one point he boldly states that 2 to the power of 4 is 24? Not good.

Can I trust what he says then? Well, I'm certainly going to seek a lot of other opinions, because Ted has undermined his case substantially for me. If all the information he presents on scrying and healing really is accurate it is a shame he felt it necessary to also write about subjects he doesn't understand.

Oh, and his insistence on saying everything three times and including a plug for his other books every few pages gets a bit annoying after a while.

In summary, a well organized and well presented book whose content should be considered somewhat suspect until the reader has further investigated the subject.
