Product Description

Product Description

Cryptids are creatures that have been un-described by scientific consensus and exist only as urban myths of times long-forgotten. The world has since moved on from the mythical legends that were Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster & the El Chupacabra, all famous examples of such majestic creatures. They have been deemed child’s play by society… or are they? A big secret is about to unfold.

The first volume in a trilogy follows seven unassuming individuals on a journey of self-discovery. Each can turn into one animal. Not only do they face the drama of their everyday lives, the mystery of their ancient heritage unfolds itself, and along with it, a global conspiracy. They learn the hard way that there is more to the natural world than meets the eye.

Living in the shadows, hidden. Meet evolution's guilty pleasure.

4.0 out of 5 stars A refreshingly different kind of book 8 Oct 2012
CRYPTIDS:Origins 1 is an adventurous read and very intelligently written. I can easily imagine this as a film! I recommend this to anyone looking for something exciting and different to keep you company this winter. Animal and human kingdoms merge ... need I say more?

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't give up your day job! 19 Mar 2013
After settling down with Cryptids, which was recommended to me by a friend (who is no longer my friend), I can sum up my experience in three words:

Dull, dull, dull...

...in a pretentious, florid and archly fatuous fashion.

The magical doings in this novel are cringe-making in the extreme, not funny or satiric as he perhaps intends. Further, it is curiously flimsy and synthetic. Its characters are collections of generic traits, their fates clumsily stage-managed by the Piscitelli to underscore philosophic points he has made many times before. Whats more, it is no more than a glorified anecdote, and not too probable at that - it is impossible to imagine how any man's fancy could have conceived such a mass of stupid filth, unless he were possessed of the soul of a sentimental donkey that had died of disappointed love.

The book is sad stuff, dull and dreary, or ridiculous. Avoid at all costs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised 14 Mar 2013

I really wasn't sure what to expect, knowing the author and having strict preconcieved ideas about what it takes to write a novel, but I was completely blown away. I thought I wouldn't get into it but after a few paragraphs each time I picked it up I became completely engrossed and lost in it.

This novel opened my eyes to the exciting world of cryptids and I really can't stress enough how impressed I was with Piscitelli's writing and the wonderful novel created here.

I'm really looking forward to the next part, because I need to find out what happens, just as I needed to find out what happened in the next Harry Potter book!

A really good read, don't hesitate to get it!
