Order of books in the Finding Home Series: Cry of the West: Hallie; Rescue on the Rio: Lilah; Missouri Challenge: Daisy

Recently widowed, Hallie Wells is facing a tough situation. The sudden demise of her husband after selling their farm and just about everything they owned to travel west on the Oregon Trail, has left her in a pickle. Dare she ask Cooper Jerome, recently returned from the war, if he would put his life on hold for, say, five months to drive her wagon, and that doesn't include his return trip. At this point, she's out of options.

About the Author

My perfect day: Laptop; WiFi availability; Java Mocha; characters demanding their stories be told; a plot that comes together; and hours to live in an alternate reality. Afterward, I return home to wash dishes and vacuum. Seriously, a love for the written word has always been an integral part of my life. As a preteen, I devoured Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys' Mysteries. When I reached my teen years, the romance genre became my favorite and that has never changed. A few years ago, I decided to try my hand at writing and I've been doing so with a passion ever since. My current focus is writing western romance, both contemporary and historical, and several of my titles have made it into the top 10 in those categories on Amazon. Because I hate saying goodbye to characters who have lived with me for months, I usually create a series so they can be revisited from book to book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Westward Ho! 11 Feb 2013

Have you ever wondered what life was like for people traveling from the East across the plains to places like Wyoming and Oregon? Read this book and you will find out! The book was fairly well researched (she shared her sources in the back of the book) and it is written well. Of course I have read many of Verna's books and they have satisfied my need to go of wanderiing somewhere in the dead of winter. If you like westerns and want to know how many of our families got past the Continental Divide ......this is the book for you.

If you like wagon train stories then this book is for you. It is a good story that keeps you wanting to read more and more. The only disappointment in the book was that it had to end !! I can't wait to read the next one and am going to buy the three books in another series written by this author as soon as I have finished this review.

I liked this book. It was written very well and I found myself crying as well as laughing throughout the book. The characters were great! I can't wait for the next book in the series this spring!

2.0 out of 5 stars So-so story 2 Feb 2013
By NinerFan - Published on Amazon.com

The story started out okay by establishing why Hallie had to travel to Oregon. I felt that she too rapidly was falling in love with Cooper, especially since her poor husband wasn't even dead 2 months! It wasn't the wholesome romance I thought it was going to be. I give the author credit for doing research on the Oregon Trail, which in the end was what motivated me to finish the book. I had already lost interest in the main characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Feel good 9 Mar 2013
By L. Christensen - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a clean, feel good book. The characters were realistic and Hallie had an amazing spirit. I felt for her when she was having feelings for Cooper knowing her husband hadn't been long from this world. What a tough person she had to be to go west with a young son and no husband.

Two things I questioned. Their journey seemed way safer with fewer troubles than most other books I've read from the same time period. The other was the story about the Indian kid. The outcome seemed unlikely.

If you're looking for a fast read with clean romance, good details and strong characters this is it.
