Product Description

Nils Lofgren s career has seen him achieve great success as a solo artist whilst also establishing himself as a guitarist for both Neil Young in Crazy Horse and Bruce Springsteen in the E Street Band. These three live performances from Germany were all filmed for the famous Rockpalast TV series and see Lofgren at differing points in his career. In 1976 he had released his debut solo album to considerable critical acclaim and was beginning to lay the foundations of his reputation. By 1979 he was well established as a solo artist and influential guitar player. For the third show in 1991, Lofgren had already done a substantial stint in the E Street Band and had just begun to return as a solo performer with his album Silver Lining . All three are great performances and catch the excitement and showmanship of one of America s finest guitar players live in concert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth buying for the '91 show alone! 28 Oct 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Been waiting for a DVD like this for along time. I have had a cassette of an hours worth of the Manchester gig from the 1991 'Silver Lining' tour since I taped if from the radio, I have since transferred this to CD and have played it to death. Here you get a full show of about 2 hours which for me is Nils at his peak. The versions of tracks like 'Keith don't go' and 'Cry Tough' are pretty definitive. The man is a truly great songwriter and singer and for me he plays with a depth of feeling and passion which no one betters. Such as on 'Valentine' and the sublime 'Shine silently'.
The 76 and 79 shows are excellent too, although not sure about the slight disco element that creeps in on one track in the 79 show, but it was sign of the times. There are of course duplicate tracks such as 'Cry tough'(can never have too much of that one)and the picture quality is not quite as good. The 91 show is very well filmed and on my 26" TV screen looks great. I don't have a great big HD flat screen (wish I had tho, but not cheap) but do have a good surround sound system. I will not dock stars for this as its a real pleasure to be able to watch footage of him live from these periods having not seen him back then. At 4 hours 27 minutes this is a superb value for money DVD.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nils at his best 5 Oct 2010

Nils Lofgren live is always good to see. The concerts are from the last century so do not expect a hd picture. The sound is good (the 1991 concert is the best).

5.0 out of 5 stars Nils at his best 7 Jan 2012

Over 4 hours of live music, any true fan of Nils will love this DVD. Some of the songs are repeated at the different concerts but it is still very enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nils Lofgren: Cry Tough 24 Aug 2011
By Rocky
Format:DVD
Superb live performances by Nils and his band. The 1991 concert is the best but there's some good material on the earlier ones as well. Nils Lofgren's guitar playing is nothing short of awesome, aided and abetted by very able and often multi-talented band musicians.
The restrained re-action of the German audience is something of a mystery - don't these guys know how to enjoy themselves and let their hair down?
All in all, a great DVD - rock music doesn't get any better than this.
