The T&G CrushGrind Apollo Pepper mill is a stylish contemporary design that is as beautiful as it is functional. The mill is crafted from high quality 18/8 Stainless steel and clear acrylic.
The mill is fitted with a CrushGrind mechanism which carries a lifetime guarantee and is fully adjustable to give you coarse or fine grinding. The mechanism at the heart of the mill is ceramic so it will not rust or oxidise food and is hard enough to grind pepper, salt and most spices. It will even grind Fenugreek, the hardest of all spices. The CrushGrind mechanism has been independently tested to an equivalent of 200 years of domestic use.
The mills are easily filled by removing the screw in stopper at the top of the mill.

I purchased these mills in an effort to "buy the best" as a gift for my wife. They worked great for six months then the pepper mill stopped grinding. We found if we swapped functions and placed the salt in the pepper mill and vice versa we could get them to function for a further six months. They have both packed up now. The online contacts for the farcical "lifetime guarantee" failed to respond. I have tried twice to all six e mail addresses, no joy.
If you want a pepper mill buy a steel grinding wheel variety. We have reverted to our 20 year old mill. The ceramic design does not work if you wish to use the mill every day. The instructions warn against "over tightening" of the grinding wheel. I like a coarse ground pepper so this was not a problem in our case.
Great design/idea for a year, advice get a good stainless steel grinder for half the price.
Update 2008 and then again March 2010. Got a call from T and G customer services (2008) to say they had read my Amazon review. They sent me two replacement grinding wheels. OK until these "larger redesigned" wheels broke whilst grinding pepper (ruining my Pizza and salad). Contacted them again to complain (Dec 2009). Three months later I got a replacement grinding wheel, again. So I have updated the star rating form 1 to 3 as they do work well (when not failing). I was only going to give 2 stars but fair play to T&G although tardy their customer service is excellent, eventually.
Advice If you can afford them for show (dinner parties etc) splash the dough for T&G and keep a wooden and steel grinder in the cupboard to use most of the time.

This is an absolute quality Mill. I unfortinatly made the mistake of not realising that this is product a Pepper Mill only and that the Salt Mill has to be ordered in addition... I suppose, from reading the review above and being shown a picture of both mills together, it is easy to assume that they come together. £38 is still worth the set. I would highly recommend these mills!

I am an extremely fussy shopper and demand good quality goods that work efficiently, so I spent a lot of time reading reviews about a lot of pepper mills before settling on this one! I had been considering buying an electronic one because I find you usually have to turn manual grinders so many times to get a decent amount of pepper out of them. But after reading dozens of poor reviews on electronic models, I decided to go for this one instead - even though I was still a bit sceptical about it being a manual one.
I ordered it one day and it came the next and so far I am very happy with my choice! It looks nice, feels reassuringly heavy in the hand and most importantly of all, it prooduces a nice lot of pepper with just a couple of (very easy) turns!
One reviewer commented that his only worked fine for about six months and that he had to keep taking it back to the shop to have the ceramic mechanism replaced. However another reviewer said that his was still working perfectly after two years' use. So all I can do is hope that it will continue to work as well as it does now. But since it states in the description that the ceramic crushgrind mechanism comes with a lifetime, I do not expect any problems with it and should there be any, I would expect T&G to rectify them free of charge. So I would happily recommend this grinder to anyone who wants a good quality pepper mill that produces a nice lot of pepper with very little effort!
