3.0 out of 5 stars Twisty turny joy ride! 23 Feb 2003
Format:VHS Tape
Alicia Silverstone turns out one of her best performances in this low key film with a deep plot that will keep you involved until the very end. This film is in the same lines as SINGLE WHITE FEMALE as it shows the obsessions of a girl driving her to unspeakable actions.
Worth the watch!

4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive debut, Miss Silverstone 30 Sep 2011
Format:DVD
I saw this film many years ago I think when it showed on Ch4 one night and I loved it. I know that Alicia Silverstone is most famous for Clueless, but as far I'm concerned, she absolutely shines in this, her motion picture debut as an unhinged, but extremely clever teenage girl with a crush on her parents' new lodger, who moves into their guest house.
Cary Elwes is excellent as the man who is tormented by Darian Forrester, and at first sees it as just a silly school girl crush and then quickly realises that it is far more serious than that and Darian is far more dangerous than that.
As with all great thrillers like this, a sexy villian is always needed, and boy, does Alicia fill those shoes with ease! Her expressions are spot on throughout and she is able to go from sweet and innocent to manipulative and deadly and furious in a flash and it is totally convincing. She also dares to show some flesh at such a tender age, (some might argue a body double, but with Hollywood, you never know, maybe they broke the rules this time, I don't care), and it makes the film even more sexy and gripping. She gets Nick (Elwes) into deep trouble by the last part of the film, but you can certainly understand how he could be drawn into her sadistic little game.
For me, this film outdoes overblown melodrama like your Fatal Attraction for example, which I believe is so overrated and stands up as a really sexy thriller, and without a doubt, Alicia Silverstone makes it as good as it is. I just think it's a great pity that she was never able to capitalise on it. But we always have this gem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Me Rambling as Usual 31 Oct 2009
By Cactus
Format:DVD
Earlier this evening I watched The Crush, which has the rather nice Alicia Silverstone in it, in what was her first serious film role. The story revolves around a 14 year old girl's crush on an older man. I have to say I wasn't really expecting much from it, but I bought it because it was cheap and it has the aforementioned person in it. (I think it's the Batman link that does it for me.) However, I have to say this was actually an excellent thriller that just about managed to stay realistic enough to be real world believable. I was pretty tired when I was watching it, but it held my attention throughout and I certainly didn't fall asleep. It's not perfect but as a gripping bit of well paced movie magic action it does pretty well. You know that feeling you get when you're watching a film that you're really engaging with? Well that's how I felt watching this one. (It also has Amber Benson in it who was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I spend ages trying to work out who it was, before noticing her in a Buffy poster on my lounge wall; she has certainly changed.) Well worth watching, especially if you're into the psyco character type of film.
