Product Description

Product Description

Europe is in turmoil. The lands are fragmented into petty fiefs, the emperor struggles with the Pope, and the Holy Father declares that all those who go to liberate the Holy Land will be freed of their sins. Now is the time for greatness.

Increase your lands and fill your coffers, appoint vassals, battle traitors, introduce laws while interacting with hundreds of nobles, and create the most powerful dynasty of medieval Europe.

A beleaguered king will always have friends to support him. But beware, as your rule and realm may find trouble when a loyal vassal becomes a bitter rival. Stand ready, increase your prestige, and listen to the world whisper your name in awe.
Do you have what it takes to become a Crusader King?

  • Start a game in 1066 and forge 400 years of European history
  • Take on the role of a Christian noble and carry them through the ages from Count to Emperor via the line of succession
  • Gather Prestige for every successive character you play, furthering the glory of your dynasty
  • Expand your feudal domain at the expense of your rivals
  • Unravel the plots of your courtiers and vassals, each armed with their own agendas
  • Re-enact the Crusades, defend against the Mongol onslaught, and form feudal nation-states
  • Struggle with the Pope for control of the bishops
  • Relive the Middle Ages with up to 32 other players in a competitive multiplayer mode
  • NOTE: This game requires Steam to install

WOW 29 Feb 2012
By sam
Fun:
This is probably one of the best games i have bought for years.
there are mods at the Paradox forums for everything and expanding all the time.
You have to take awhile to learn how to play it, the manual and in game tutorial does a reasonable job, but your best to go to Paradox forums, theres plenty of information there.
the game boiles down to keeping your family line in power and climbing the ladder. you can start as king or as low as count.expand your influence, take part or initiate plots, assasinate or marry your children to other powers to make allies, just about anything you can think of.theres plenty of scope for expanding your realm as well as war.
it really is brilliant and well worth the money.
BUY IT.
i highly recommend it.

Fun:
I have had a go at most of the recent paradox games and to tell the truth I am terrible at them. CK2 on the other hand is much easier to get to grips with. There are 27 mini tutorials that give you the basics and them once you start playing things come fairly intuitively. I would recommend that if you are not familiar with this type of game to watch some youtube tutorials before deciding ot buy and before your first playthrough.

The game can be slow at times and it could do with a civ like in game wiki but I found it great fun and for me it is the best grand strategy paradox game to date.

Sublime 16 Feb 2012
Fun:
I really dislike HoI and Vic and EU and all those other games. I even own CK and DV but struggled to get into it.

However I decided to download the CK2 demo, and fell in love with the game. It is quite possibly GotY for me and it's only Feb yet something very special will have to arrive to beat it. The music\graphics and gameplay ooze atmosphere and immersion. It's a game that you'll always feel like firing up compared to most games where you have to be in the mood. It's quality from top to bottom. My only worry would be the events becoming repetitive, however I expect modders to dispel that fear.

I heartily recommend this game especially if you have even the slightest interest in the period.

I read somewhere about Skyrim being sublime. Well actually I think this game is sublime. A beautiful change of pace from all those shooters\RPG's. It has an old school feel, it feels like it's come along from the bygone past when games oozed gameplay or where innovative or even when your imagination took over whilst playing which stemmed from the gameplay and ignorance in how games where made, so they where like a Pandoras box. This is what the game is A medieval Pandoras Box. It ends up telling you an amazing story, usually very humorous and full of drama.

The reason why a 4 and not a 5. Because I think the stock game is a little short on events\plots\ambitions. Though I'm sure they will be modded.

It's a classic in the making.
