I actually have the 17"W case for my MacBookPro. Saw these reviews and just had to add... Hooking those elastic straps over a closed laptop makes no sense that I can see. Try it. Unzip the case and the bottom just falls away, so I doubt that's what they are for. If they were intended for that, they'd be on the bottom portion!

On the other hand, when the laptop's open they do tend to indicate you should use them! When I'm using the machine in public - on a train - I do hook them on. 1 to give a bit more privacy. 2 so that the open case doesn't get in the way of the opposing passenger's half of the table!

Although I have so say, having them hooked over does block the top corners of the screen, which is a bit annoying. And as for the case, I do love it but for one thing, and the reason I've given 4 stars... If you put it somewhere where something hard presses into it for any time, the mark/indentation stays pressed into the case forever!! Not quite what I thought was meant by 'memory foam' :-)

As for the laptop overheating due to the case now blocking the vents... Here's the smug bit! My Apple has vents that breath onto the inside of the hinge, so the warm air comes out between the keyboard and the screen! You get what you pay for... My ex drives a Vauxhall, my girlfriend drives a more expensive, and infinitely better built VW. I know which I prefer to drive - an Apple not a PC!

Happy shopping! darth x

If I use my laptop in my crumpler laptop sleeve, it gets so hot that its internal thermostat stops it. It locks up and sits there panting like a dog. Ctrl-alt-del, etc.

This is because:
a) neoprene is an excellent insulator and stops the alloy shell of the laptop from conducting heat away from the machine, and
b) the neoprene shell covers the little slot at the hinge / back which is what the laptop breathes through.
So why does the sleeve have special little tags to flip over the screen asking you use it in the sleeve? It should come with a health warning.

I conclude: its a flawed design - I can use it as a protective sleeve only and take the lappy out to use it but if this is so, then make the zip run along one edge only!
Nah, its designed to look good by people who never used it. If you use the lappy in the sleeve like it's designed for, it crashes your lappy.

And most of all if you write a nice e-mail to crumpler to tell them this - they don't bother to write back. - Which is why I wrote this review.
But hey, crumpler are doing just fine. - They don't care.

Yours,

Henry Thompson
