Book Description

In Cruise Confidential, Brian David Bruns spills the dirt — or in this case, the dirty water — on those romantic, fun-filled vacations at sea. His hilarious chronicle of the year he spent working for Carnival Cruise Lines takes readers down into the areas where the crew works and lives, leaving readers gasping with laughter as they’re assaulted nonstop with events that range from the absurd to the utterly bizarre. Stewards fighting over food. Cutlery allowances and other nonsensical rules. What the crew calls those onboard (no, it’s not “passengers”). And of course, the sex. An abundance of ready, willing, and able bodies eager for action on a vessel replete with nooks and crannies leads to love in some mighty strange, and seemingly impossible, places. Breezy, entertaining, and informative, Cruise Confidential is essential reading for those planning a cruise or for anyone who just needs a good laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real behind the scenes look at cruising 11 Jun. 2010
I love cruises and always wanted to know what went on behind the scenes.
Cruise confidential answered all of my questions and confirmed a few theories too.
I could never understand why a lot of the crew stayed on board when the ship docked
in great scenic harbours but I now know it's because they are too tired to walk
    never mind sightsee!
Altogether a great book, I could hardly put it down.
Author has a great sense of humour and makes it an easy read full of laughs.
Cant wait to read his next book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete waste of money 28 Feb. 2015
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
    What a waste of £5.
    Very very disappointing and annoying.
The whole book was all about him showing off, how popular he is, how funny, how talented, how BORING.
I was expecting a look behind the scenes of a Cruise ship, the quirky passengers etc.
What a total waste of money.

    3.0 out of 5 stars A Personal Take on Cruise's 2 Jan. 2012
    Format:Kindle Edition
This is a very personal tale of working on cruise ships from one man's eyes.

The reader is taken through days of working with barely a minute off, through the excesses which consume time off. It tells his tale of chasing around the world for love, and dips into those who do it for money, yet it is just one mans view, a very American outlook on an unfamiliar world, slightly arrogant but still an entertaining read.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 29 Nov. 2014

Muddled and frequently unintelligible. a complete waste of money and confirms how awful a cruise must be! Not even worth one star.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting but a little narrow in scope 1 Nov. 2010
If you buy this book to get a peak into cruise life from the crews' point of view you won't be disapointed. It is well written and very funny at parts. I personally wanted to learn more about how the cruiseship is run on various levels and not just what happens in the dining room. The lead character is a waiter trying to become a maitre d' so most of the book is about working in the dining room, partying at the crew bar and partying in the various exotic locations when on few hours leave. I would have liked to also read about what happens in the kitchen or the hotel or the bridge and so on. Nevertheless if you know nothing about crew life on a cruise ship you will find out a lot with this book and probably have a good time.

    2.0 out of 5 stars Disapppointed 28 April 2013
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
More fiction than fact. An American crew member of an American cruise liner full of his fanciful sexual exploits. I was hoping for a (non-American) crew member`s description of life below decks on P&O or Cunard ship. My suggestion is give it a miss.

    2.0 out of 5 stars Boring 28 Mar. 2015
    By PP JJ
    Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Imo it is not a very well written book. Some of the anecdotes aren't interesting and the dialogue at times is quite odd. It does give a good insight into the schedules and working lives of cruise workers.
