Product Description

In Cruise Confidential, Brian David Bruns spills the dirt — or in this case, the dirty water — on those romantic, fun-filled vacations at sea. His hilarious chronicle of the year he spent working for Carnival Cruise Lines takes readers down into the areas where the crew works and lives, leaving readers gasping with laughter as they’re assaulted nonstop with events that range from the absurd to the utterly bizarre. Stewards fighting over food. Cutlery allowances and other nonsensical rules. What the crew calls those onboard (no, it’s not “passengers”). And of course, the sex. An abundance of ready, willing, and able bodies eager for action on a vessel replete with nooks and crannies leads to love in some mighty strange, and seemingly impossible, places. Breezy, entertaining, and informative, Cruise Confidential is essential reading for those planning a cruise or for anyone who just needs a good laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real behind the scenes look at cruising 11 Jun 2010
By TOMCAT
Format:Paperback
I love cruises and always wanted to know what went on behind the scenes.
Cruise confidential answered all of my questions and confirmed a few theories too.
I could never understand why a lot of the crew stayed on board when the ship docked
in great scenic harbours but I now know it's because they are too tired to walk
never mind sightsee!
Altogether a great book, I could hardly put it down.
Author has a great sense of humour and makes it an easy read full of laughs.
Cant wait to read his next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read! 3 Jan 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Well written, funny, a real eye opener from someone who has cruised many times - reading it really opened my eyes to the waiters that had served me in the past and what some of them have to go through

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for all cruisers 7 Jan 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
As a fan of cruising, I was eager to learn how 'the other half live' and this book comes up with the goods. I will never again think of a job on a cruise ship as an easy way to see the world - half the time you don't get to see anything at all as you are too busy sleeping or working. This book is certainly an eye-opener and spills the beans on life in the bowels of the ship. Plus, after a sluggish start, it romps along from one escapade to another. I enjoyed it so much, I feel like reading it again!

3.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting but a little narrow in scope 1 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
If you buy this book to get a peak into cruise life from the crews' point of view you won't be disapointed. It is well written and very funny at parts. I personally wanted to learn more about how the cruiseship is run on various levels and not just what happens in the dining room. The lead character is a waiter trying to become a maitre d' so most of the book is about working in the dining room, partying at the crew bar and partying in the various exotic locations when on few hours leave. I would have liked to also read about what happens in the kitchen or the hotel or the bridge and so on. Nevertheless if you know nothing about crew life on a cruise ship you will find out a lot with this book and probably have a good time.

Some 95 percent of their money came from tips, though the cruise lines don’t want guests to know that. The cruise line courteously recommends the appropriate amount of gratuity, but neglects to mention it is the only money the waiters ever see. "e;
