Amazon.co.uk Review

There's a reason you haven't heard of Cruel Intentions 2, a straight-to-video "sequel" to the seamy teen romp that had Ryan Phillippe baring his polished behind: it's twice as bad as the first one and is only worth a look to see just how embarrassingly trivial it can get. Writer-director Roger Kumble's original was no classic, but at least the game, nubile cast knew how to smack its lips--his follow-up (which, in tamer form, was to be the pilot for a proposed series called Manchester Prep) can't even pout properly. Phillippe's Sebastian character (here played by a bland, doughy Robin Dunne) is carted back out to be reintroduced to scheming stepsister Kathryn, enacted by a woefully unsexy Amy Adams (Sarah Michelle Gellar played Sebastian's ripe cousin in the first film). The two don't hit it off, and Sebastian--far more sentimental than his big-screen counterpart--immediately decides he's all for love, in the form of pristine deb Danielle (Sarah Thompson). It all amounts to a ponderously cartoonish nothing, and includes a twist ending that renders everything proceeding it completely incomprehensible. Kumble has the film spouting homilies on love and self-esteem, then randomly throws in bare breasts; it's like a horny Saved by the Bell, without the kick or pace of good camp. --Steve Wiecking, Amazon.com

Obviously having loved the first one I was a bit miffed when the cast was changed for the sequel. Although I was told how bad the movie was I was curious to see for myself. And was pleasantly surprised. It's no master-piece and by no means lives upo to the first one but is still a good film in it's own right. Amy Adams was excellent as Katherine (no Sarah Michelle Gellar addmittedly) but would it have killed them to have an actress with brown hair?! The sebastien was annoying and didn't seem right, but Katherine made up for it. The endind had a nice twist which I really didn't see come but does seem to confuse certain aspects of the film. And although the film sometimes presents itself as a B-grade porno it's definitely worth a watch if you happen to get bored.

A terrible prequel 19 May 2001

Format:DVD
After the brilliant original version, I was very disappointed with this prequel.

You spend half the movie thinking its a lame re-write of the first. Just as you think the movie is starting to get going, and is quite good, it has a 30 second ending which gets sprung on you.

There are lots of dis-jointed parts in the film. ie. At one stage, a girl that Sebastians father pulled goes off with his jacket. A bit later in the film, he's magically wearing it again with no clues as to how he got it back. This is further backed up when you view the trailer .. there are scenes in the trailer which I never even saw in the film?! I actually had to go through the "Scene Selection" to check my DVD wasnt broken and that I hadnt missed a big chunk out. Hmmm.

Apart from some gratuitous sexual content, there is not a lot more to be said about this apart from "It could have been so much better.."

Well, I had to buy this movie simply because I like the first. What can I say? It has almost exactly the same plot as the first film, except here the script is far more unoriginal and predictable, making use of about every sexual inuendo that exists. However, there are some mildly amusing parts of the film, some of which are due to the awful acting. Also, if you are a fan of the original, the backstory may interest you slightly. In short, this film is only for die-hard fans of the original. Apart from that, it is boring, trashy and a completely useless film.
