5.0 out of 5 stars The Besf of Oz. 20 Oct 2009
Format:Audio CD
"Cruel Guards" was the Triple J album of the Year 2007 and what a cracker it is. Just love it. Hope you do too. Rock on the Panics!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best of '09 30 Sep 2009
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Took a chance on this after reading a magazine review, and was blown away. This Lp contains ten tracks of faultless guitar pop that showcases quality songcraft.

This is easily in my top five albums of '09. Who said no good music comes out of Australia?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliance.... 10 Jun 2009
By Stephen Spencer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Quite simply this is an excellent album from a band that has consistently produced the goods over the course of their three albums.

If you like melodic, atmospheric guitar music tinged with alt country then buy it. Think Elliot Smith meets The Stone Roses. And in Don't Fight it they have written one of the singles of the year.

I can't recommend this highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rousing wonderful album! 10 Nov 2008

Do check this album out - it's full of great songs with strong melodies and poetic lyrics - my favorites are "Don't Fight It" and "Get Us Home". If you like The Decemberists, The Go-Betweens, Midlake, Death Cab or REM, I think you'll like this album.
5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful intricacies 24 April 2010
By Wayne A. Cristaudo - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I bought this a couple of years ago, listened to it once or twice and left it alone. Their previous album 'Sleeps like a Curse' grabbed me instantly. But then I put it in the cd player a couple of weeks ago and am hooked. The songwriting, arrangements, playing and production are all astonishing. I can't think of any one they sound like. The arrangements and layers of each song are just perfect. , The singer's rather limited range, and his soft semi-spoken delivery would rule him out of fronting all manner of bands. But here it just fits snugly and is just right. The extra cd which consists of a handful of covers -s one Dylan and Cohen and one or two others just doesn't work at all because the arrangements are more traditional and what sets the Panics apart is the way in which the parts are so neatly playing off each other. Forget the one and three stars reviews - by people who haven't heard the album! The music gets under your skin.

3.0 out of 5 stars WRONG info by amazon! This is NOT disco!! 28 Mar 2009
By Vigilance - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Amazon seems to suggest that this CD is by Alison Moyet or is somehow related to that disco-type stuff. It absolutely is NOT. I know very little about The Panics, other than they're an indie rock-ish band from Australia. But I heard "Don't Fight It" on my local public radio station (WFPK in Louisville, awesome radio station) and it's a terrific song - it actually stuck in my head to the degree that I went to FPK's playlist archive this morning to see just who that was that I heard at 7am Friday morning. I will likely buy this soon, and my opinion will either go up to four stars or down to two, depending on how the other songs turn out.
