A superb English Cathedral Choir with wonderful atmosphere 17 Nov 1999
By Philip Bailey - Published on Amazon.com
Although not an Old Foundation English Cathedral (the building was consecrated in the 1960s), the first Choirmaster, Barry Rose, created such a sure foundation that both his sucessors (Philip Moore and Andrew Millington) have had no trouble in continuing a choir with an international reputation. Better than many other "old foundation" choirs, Guildford is a choir with spirit, verve and sensitivity. The accompaniments of Geoffrey Morgan on the Rushworth & Dreaper 4-manual add the crowning glory to this CD. Restrained and colourful, they shew his mastery of the instrument and the art of accompaniment. The items on this disc are sung with a rare quality, which I wish could be found on many other recordings of English choirs. A definite recommendation!
