Fantastic upgrade 5 Feb 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I've just replaced a very fast 7200rpm 2.5" drive for this SSD drive and although new tech hardly ever makes me take notice, this did, in a big way. Although having only 64Gb might not be enough for most people (I have put the 7200rpm drive into the laptops expansion bay as storage), if you can manage to get an additional drive, I still feel that it's a valid upgrade. The area where the previous drive sat has no heat at all due to the change (Another benefit)

I don't think that I'll ever have a laptop without SSD again. (Just ordered a 128Gb version for my other machine)

I miss off one star as 64Gb is a bot small and they really should have started at 128Gb (Heaven help people if they've purchased a 30Gb model) :)

I have this running in a Windows 7 desktop system with a Core i7-750 CPU and a mechanical hard drive for data. By the way, the best way to store your data on the D drive is to use the libraries in Windows 7 - I had to search the Internet for ages to find this out.

The system is incredibly quick and responsive for everyday tasks (opening programs, Internet browsing) and can handle anything else I've thrown at it quickly too. Not sure how it will last yet as I've only had it about a month, but I've turned off the automatic defrag and am optimistic as I've had good experiences with Crucial kit in the past. It is probably a little expensive at them moment (£150) but I'm sure the prices will come down.

Great disk, but watch the firmware 12 Oct 2009
By Gho Edgardo Alberto - Published on Amazon.com

Please excuse my english, i am spanish.
Let me begin by saying that this disks performs amazingly well.
My Mac Mini shines with this disk. I have never used something as fast and soundless as this.

The only thing that worried me, was the firmware version. I saw that this disk has 2 firmware versions, the 1711 and the 1571 (older). Apparently the newest one made it pretty unusable if you were running Windows 7 (not my case), and made the computer jam if you put the disk to sleep.
On Crucial website, you can fill a form and return the disk (if it had the 1711), and they send another disk with the 1571.

Since i live abroad, it was pretty complicated, since i had to pay for the shipping myself.

Nevertheless this drive came with the older firmware, so i guess i was lucky.

Beside that, it all worked like a charm.

If i would have the money, i would probably buy the 128GB version, since 64 is not that much. I keep this as the main bootdisk, and i have nearly 30GB free. All my music and movies are kept in an USB external drive.

Once again, excuse my english.

Great drive at a once great price 19 Oct 2009

I received my drive in early October and have been using it as my Vista 64 boot disk with a 4 drive RAID setup for file storage, games and commonly changed files. Hardware wise this drive is great. It has great throughput and loads most anything instantly. The one issue I have with this drive at this point is the sudden %33 jump in price. Even worse, this is a jump directed by the manufacturer since this is mostly a change in suggested retail price. My advice would be if you are in the market for an SSD of this caliber or below, wait. This sudden price gouging is ridiculous. Hopefully, once Windows 7 is released and demand goes down, Crucial will decide to bring this product's price back down to the original mid $100 SRP.
Improved Wondows 7 performance from 5.9 to 7.4 4 Aug 2010

I love this Solid State Drive. It dramatically improved my gaming PC's performance over a traditional drive. Be careful that you have the right bay converter and cables. Do not be alarmed if Windows 7 does not recognize it. I had to use disk management tools to format first. Once installed, it works very well!
