Book Description

How Do You Communicate When the Stakes Are High?

In any organization, the best laid plans boil down to one simple thing: how well we come together to bring them to fruition. But more often than not, we end up dealing with people who come across as disagreeable, stubborn, or even obstructive. And emotions flare up. The only way to get things done is to step up to the plate . . . by stepping back from our emotions.

Written by a team of experts from the world-renowned training firm VitalSmarts, these two books provide the skills you need to make every interaction fruitful and productive in even the most emotional situations.

eBook package includes:

The New York Times bestselling Crucial Conversations has sparked a revolution in how people communicate to achieve common goals. Now, the revised second edition builds on this decade-long legacy of success to get professionals at every level and in all professions talking with partners, bosses, employees, clients—not at them.

Learn proven methods for turning the focus of hot-button discussions—job performance, customer satisfaction, interpersonal matters—away from subjective points of view and toward productive, mutually beneficial conclusions.

“[Crucial Conversations] draws our attention to those defining moments that literally shape our lives, our relationships, and our world. . . . This book deserves to take its place as one of the key thought leadership contributions of our time.”
—from the Foreword by Stephen R. Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

“The quality of your life comes out of the quality of your dialogues and conversations. Here’s how to instantly uplift your crucial conversations.”
—Mark Victor Hansen, co-creator of the #1 New York Times bestselling series Chicken Soup for the Soul®

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Fabulous Books for the price of 1 BUY this combo! 14 Jun. 2012
By Michele Weisneck - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
First, you do get both books; they just download together instead of separately (Goto location 4173 for Crucial Conversations). This is a fantastic bargain.

Second, the authors provide you, free of charge, resources and asessments linked from your Kindle, PC, or PlayBook, etc. You are able to watch videos while reading (on my PlayBook the videos are sharp and high quality). If you are even the slightest bit interested in these books BUY the kindle version; you won't regret it.
I don't know if the print versions contain all of the resources, but it sure is convenient to just be able to click a link immediately when additional materials are referenced in the text.

I haven't finished reading the two books, but have taken the assessments as a pretest, so to speak. These assessments alone are worth the price of these two books.
I have yet to go through all of the resources available, but I am excited to have them.

I get the sense that the authors truly want people to become better leaders and communicators; its not just a way to make a buck or get something published.

You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good deal, not a very helpful review. 14 May 2012

Honestly, I haven't had time to read them cover-to-cover yet. I can't really offer you a great, in-depth review. Sorry.

You do get both Kindle books, albeit in one file. Would have preferred two separate files, but... meh. Good deal, so no worries.

I did, however want to help raise this product's rating. As an avid Amazon customer, I rely on ratings quite a bit for my purchasing decisions, and this product page got a bad start. I don't feel like the product should suffer 'cause someone didn't pay attention to what they were getting, because I know that can affect the sales. I found this package after seeing the high ratings for both of these books separately on their own product pages...

Crucial Conversations Tools for Talking When Stakes Are High, Second Edition (yes, the package actually includes the second edition) & Crucial Confrontations

**If you'd like reviews more helpful than mine ( =P ) you can always read the many positive reviews for these books separately. They are the same two books spliced into one Kindle file, far as I can tell.**

I will say, both of these books have helpful information in them (from what I've read so far), and are written in a way that is easy enough to read.

Most of all, this is a GREAT DEAL! I hope more Kindle books move toward this kind of package-deal structure in the future, because this is essentially 'buy one, get one free' pricing (at the time of my purchase, anyway).

If communication skills are something you'd like to improve in your life, I'd say this is a great bargain on some worthwhile knowledge.

Also, if you do buy it, please come back and leave an honest review! Apparently this product's page could use them. =P

[I am in no way affiliated with this book, author, publisher, kindle, the word 'crucial', or anything to that effect. Just trying to give this product a fair shake.]

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Buy! 25 Jun. 2012

This combination was a great buy. It was recommended by a principal during some course work I was taking. I haven't made it through both books yet, but I have been very happy with the suggestions thus far. It corresponds very well with other leadership research that is out there, and provides an interesting insight into a difficult part of everyday living.

Great Buy! (It does come as one file, Crucial Conversations is located after the 1st book. Just look at the table of contents).

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable Training for Those Who HATE Confrontation 13 Aug. 2012
By Sarah Geiger - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I HATE confrontation. I AM the person this book has in mind, but I was surprised at how applicable the advice was for anybody and in any sphere of your life, whether professional or personal. There's stuff in here for managers, employees, parents, spouses, etc. We all have conflict in our lives and even for people who don't tend to avoid it at all costs, there are good ways and bad ways to approach it. This is the real deal, straight dope advice and final word on the subject. It changed how I think about conflict and gave me the tools for handling it in a much better way. This will be a classic for a long time.
