Product Description

The Crucial m4 SSD

Award-winning quality. Award-winning performance.

The award-winning Crucial m4 SSD delivers powerful performance gains for SATA 6Gb/s systems. Designed to empower your system, the Crucial m4 SSD offers faster application load times, faster boot times, and increased durability compared to a traditional hard drive. The results speak for themselves: blazing-fast sequential read speeds of up to 500 MB/s for any file type.

Cutting-edge technology. Quality component testing.

Built with advanced controller technology, Micron proprietary firmware and high-speed synchronous MLC NAND, the Crucial m4 SSD is engineered to deliver consistent, blazing-fast SSD performance. From the extensive research and development that led to its ultimate design, to the hours of testing and validation spent on each NAND component, to rigorous compatibility testing in the Crucial Performance Labs to ensure component functionality, the Crucial m4 SSD is built to last.

Consistently fast speeds. No exceptions and no fine print.

There's a reason the Crucial m4 SSD has garnered numerous international awards since its launch it does what it's supposed to do. No matter what kind of files you are working with on a Crucial SSD, you'll experience high speeds with no drop in performance.

Unlike other SSDs on the market, Crucial SSDs treat all files the same, regardless of whether they are compressed or uncompressed. This is important because the files most people use everyday are videos, mp3s, advanced graphics files and zip files - are compressed files and thus unable to be compressed any further. While many SSDs on the market achieve faster speeds by using file compression, many of the most common file types can not be compressed, resulting in SSDs that often deliver drastically slower speeds than originally advertised. With the advanced technology of a Crucial SSD, however, you will never have this problem!

Crucial quality you can depend on.

Crucial is a trusted name when it comes to SSDs, and that's no coincidence. As a brand of Micron, one of the worlds leading manufacturers of SSDs, we work with our engineers to design, refine, and support our drives. With over 15 years of experience in the memory industry, NAND component testing, and the ongoing development of advanced technology, we continue to innovate without sacrificing what has made us great: high-quality upgrades and outstanding customer service.

Crucial SSDs. Performance you can trust.

I had bought this to replace a still working internal HDD in my 2009 Mac Book Pro, it was starting to slow down pretty badly (a mixture of the drive being too full and the need to have quite a few programs open at once). I was planning to buy a new one when I thought about buying one of these.

The item arrived quickly and I immediately connected it up and cloned my HDD onto it.... no problems there, Super Duper for Mac did what it was supposed to (bar some temp system files).

    Installation:

A fairly easy process although one thing that wasn't mentioned was the fact that you need a T6 Torx screw to remove a few small screws that are used to hold the drive locked into place on the Mac Book Pro... I had broken my T6 head and was awaiting delivery of a new one. As a short term fix I padded out the extra height and screwed the encasing bracket on (which sort of wedged it in place anyway).

    Performance:

This thing is quick.... from being so close to going out and having to buy a new laptop and then saving myself a fortune by buying this SSD I am very happy. It would have been a 10 minute affair to boot up the laptop to a point where it was ready to be used.... now only 30 seconds. big programs opening very quickly as well.

    Overall:

I am very pleased with my purchase, I had read a few reviews before buying and if the drive performs as per the reviews (stability wise) I will be over the moon. Read / Write speeds brilliant and silent operation. It has also prolonged the amount of time I get out of a single charge and reduced the overall running temperature of the machine to the point where I very rarely hear the fans kick in now.

I bought one of these for my Windows 7 Ultimate PC about 7 months ago (13/11/2011). It worked just as I had hoped and my Windows loaded in a flash and all my programs seemed more responsive.

About 7 months later my computer began to freeze for no apparent reason, usually when I was surfing the net but not always then. This problem slowly got worse until the computer would not work for more than about an hour without freezing. I tried everything I could think of to track down the problem but to no avail. I used the windows repair disc, I checked the CPU core temperatures, I rebuilt the Master Boot Record ( this because one of the fault messages said the there was a problem with the MBR).

I had noticed on one of the many occasions that I had to restart the computer that the Crucial SSD appeared to be missing from the list of hard drives but it always came back after a while and I began to suspect that I had a computer overheating problem. It was nothing of the sort!

I made the decision that the fault was beyond my understanding and that I would take the computer into my local computer repair shop on Monday morning. I continued to research the problem over the weekend by searching for any comments by others on freezing SSD's but none of the many problems appeared to apply to me until I searched for the problem with this particular SSD and amongst the very many hits I chanced on a comment about this drive that solved the problem!

The comment I found said "After 5000 hours of life the Crucial M4 SSD 128GB 2.5 Drive will cease to function after about an hours use, this can be cured by updating to the latest firmware '000F' which can be found on the Crucial web site.

Got this Crucial 256GB SSD over the weekend and couldn't wait until I had fitted it.
Once I worked out what I needed to do to fit it and got it up and running it worked like a dream.
It has transformed my macbook pro and its like using a totally different machine.
It starts up within a few seconds and the software loads almost instantly even iPhoto, iTunes and other software that use up a lot of ram.
I am so pleased I cant stop using it.
I highly recommend this upgrade as a must for anyone as your whole experience of using a notebook, mac/pc, will be totally transformed for the better.

I bought the crucial m4 ssd after reading a lot of opinions between crucial m4 and corsair force 3. This seems to be the best solution for the macbook pro 15" early 2011. I'm using very much the adobe products and to get an idea about how good is, the Adobe Photoshop loads in 1-2 seconds and Dreamweaver almost instantly. I didn't enable any trim and seems to work very good. I'm using Mac os X Mountain Lion.

I upgraded from an older crucial 128GB ssd to the larger capacity crucial 256gb M4.
The transfer cable works well. I installed my operating system followed by drivers and then
all my main programmes, then I used the transfer cable to clone my initial, fresh set up back to my older ssd.
I now hope that if I have any unforeseen problems, rather than having to do a fresh OS install followed by the usual time consuming set up I can clone a copy of my set-up back to my main ssd.
