This book is really interesting covering as it does the history of the early 20th Century and the Suffragettes. Its set around the time of George V's coronation and includes a lot information about the time. Its heroine is a suffragette and a sleuth, she is also resourceful and intelligent. Its particularly interesting as it covers other politics - anarchists and communards who were active at the time, as well as the police. At times it is funny and at other times sad and using a woman as the sleuth allows the author to explore the changing position of women at the time as well as the resistance to change from both women and men. This is a fascinating read with insights also into Holloway prison and its history as a silent prison and how prisoners were able to communicate. I loved it and reccommend it as a thoroughly good and intelligent read!
