fifth in a series of dvds releasing episodes of tv show crown court. If you're not familiar with the programme then a brief introduction: it ran from 1972-1984, and had three twenty five minute long episodes every week. these showed a trial in a high court taking place. the accused, witnesses and barristers and judges were all actors, but eleven members of the jury were members of the public and they got to deliver the verdict.

a fondly remembered programme and a very good drama you can now enjoy it all again.

This latest volume follows the usual format for these releases. four discs containing twelve episodes each and thus three different stories each. there are no subtitles on the discs and english is the only language track.

the show has built up a strong semi regular cast of barristers and judges by this point, and yet some appear more than others. only seven barristers are seen through the twelve cases here, and two of them are characters we've not seen before, thus some of the ones seen in previous volumes are absent. however there are eight different judges in the twelve cases, five of whom are ones we've not seen before.

many of the cases offer good food for thought, as they tackle subjects such as censorship, child abuse, and soldiers present in civilian areas. issues as pertinent today as they were when thes episodes were first broadcast in 1973.

and there is some slight tinkering with the format as one episode has scenes outside the court - it's startling to see the barristers with their wigs off - one has a scene in the court prior to a trial starting, and four use film sequences to show things that took place outside the court or before the trial.

this is quality television drama from a show with a great format that is worthy of revival. There are many more episodes not yet available on dvd so here's hoping they come out soon
