I met Anne Brandt at a writers conference (my first one). I cannot believe the hell she went through getting this book published. It is a wonderful story starting in Florida and ending in North Carolina. The scenery is described beautifully but the important part here is the story itself. I'm not giving away any of the plot but it is a book I couldn't put down. Oprah should pick this one up. My husband should pick this up. The tale feels real and is scary at times.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Gem must not go undiscovered! 22 Aug 1999

I loved every minute of it and could not put it down. Ann Brandt does a great job of weaving in more than one basic plotline with strong characters that are complex and believeable. I also enjoyed the description of the North Carolina scenery. Ann Brandt uses such wonderful imagery that I felt as if I was right there. She also does an excellent job of pulling together the main plot as well as the sub-plots and bringing the book to a strong finish. This book is definately on my recommended reading list!

Beautifully written. Compelling story with characters that were believable. I loved Ann's visual imagery and felt as if I was in the mountains of North Carolina or in South Florida. I particularly liked the way she wove the environmental issues of over development into the plot and contrasted this with the pristine beauty of the Carolina mountains. I could not put the book down. This book is a compelling read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written, a book to treasure 22 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Crowfoot Ridge is an excellent story written by a charming woman, Ann Brandt. She masterfully deals with difficult subject matter, taking her reader on an emotional ride. I rarely read new novels that I would recommend to my mother, a finicky reader at best, but this one I did. And she adored it. I am looking forward to the next novel by this author.

Avery Kessler's roadtrip to destiny takes the reader from the marshes of southern Florida to the kaleidoscope-colored Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Avery returns to Crowfoot Ridge and the memories and lies that have haunted her since childhood. She returns to the Marshall family: Sylva, her best friend; and Mars, her first love. But things have changed since Avery left Crowfoot Ridge, and digging up the past means confronting an uncertain future. Avery's journey is made more poignant and dramatic as the seasons change in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Ann Brandt's vivid writing paints bold, colorful scenery and come-to-life characters. Like Avery, after reading Crowfoot Ridge, I know I'll return to it again and again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Yawn, snore; what a bore! 12 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Simply one of the worst books I have ever read -- didn't evenbother to finish it! The writing was sophomoric and simplistic, and the story line was just too pat for me to deal with. I was far from being transported back to Florida or North Carolina (and I'm quite familiar with both those places). On the contrary, I felt this story could have taken place anywhere -- which was a let-down for me. Thank goodness I got this one out of the library and didn't waste my money!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An impelling read of a woman's self discovery 30 July 1999
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
A childhood memory and a lost love--buried in another life, beyond her control--surface to propel Avery Baldwin backward through her privileged life as a Florida realtor to the childhood simplicity she had known each summer in the North Carolina mountains and to face at last the devastating events which had shaped her adult life. Ann Brandt skillfully takes her readers along on Avery's journey of sef-discovery, while pausing long enough along the way to appreciate the lush beauty of old Florida--disappearing forever under the developers' bulldozers--and the stark beauty of the Appalachians--where time stands still at "Crowfoot Ridge."
