'The perfect biography' RECORD COLLECTOR 'Faithful, factually accurate . . . Schumacher never succumbs to the temptation to focus entirely on the drugs and alcoholism, sticking devotedly to the music' MOJO

Product Description

CROSSROADS is the story of Eric Clapton - the man, his magnificent music and his tragedy-marred life. Clapton is the million-selling Grammy-winning master of the blues guitar - and his popularity has hit new heights since his 'Unplugged' album sold over 6 million copies. However, beneath the acclaim has been a life full of heartbreak. This, the first full-scale, serious look at this history-making musician, captures it all. Heroin addiction in the 70s...alcoholism in the 80s...his divorce from Pattie Boyd - the inspiration for 'Layla'...the helicopter crash that killed his closest associates including Stevie Ray Vaughan...the accidental death of his four-year-old son...this book goes behind the headlines to reveal the depth of Clapton's pain and the roots of his musical power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 28 Mar 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Crossroads: Eric Clapton (Paperback)
This book strikes the right balance, in giving the reader an insight into Clapton's career and personal life. This is one of the shorter musical biographies that are available, this means that the reader is spared too much irrelevant information.

The author clearly has an affection for his subject, but doesn't shy away from telling us about Clapton's shortcoming's in a non-speculative manner.

The book end's on Clapton's recording of the Pilgrim album, so all the main areas of his life prior to this are covered. Can't recommend this book enough, I've re-read this several times, which has to be a criteria for a 5 star book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good book for a great artist, 7 Oct 2006
This review is from: Crossroads: Eric Clapton (Paperback)
This book gives in great detail the life of Eric Clapton up until the release of 'from the cradle' and 'pilgrim'. The book documents the music, family history, friends, hardships and the addictions of the master in a non biassed manner. A truly good read for anyone who has a love of claptons music, or just a general interest as to who the man is.

This review is from: Crossroads: Eric Clapton (Paperback)
This is a great look at Claptons life and career. It is easy to read and covers the aspects of most interest. It looks at Ec's rise and development, recording output and relationships. This is the perfect biography to start with if you're interested in Ec's music and career and is well worth a read.
