This is a review of the pilot of 'Crossing Lines', a wonderful new crime series test features an international cast and an international setting. It is not easy heading thus kind of team, but Marc Lavoine, plays the detective of the new 'International Criminal Court' or ICC. As the pilot starts we meet the team, he has brought together.

Donald Sutherland, plays a judge or supervisor, Michael,Dorn, who oversees this type of team. Marc Lavoine, plays Louis Daniel, the French leader of this group. He has problems on the home front, in fact each member of the team has a secret they may not want to share. William Fichtner, plays Det. Carl,Hickman as the American member of the team, who is brought into this team, and uses morphine to battle physical and psychological pain. Gabriella Pession, plays Sgt. Eva Vittoria, an anti- mafia covert specialist from Italy, tom Wladchiha, plays Kommisar Sebastian Berger, a tech specialist from Germany like no other, Moon Dailly, as Det. Sgt. Anne-Marie San, from France, a crimes analyst from France, and Richard Flood, plays Det. Tommy McConnel, a weapons specialist and tactical expert from Northern Ireland.

This crime unit is based in The Hague, it investigates a variety of crimes that cross international lines. We find right at the beginning this type of team has turf issues, the same as any police force, but thus is on a grander scale. In the opening pilot, we visit Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin, looking for a border-crossing serial killer who is killing and mutilating women, and leaving them with no evidence what so ever, to find a clue. There seems to be a hint if romance between some of the team, but nothing definitive.

The acting is top notch, the story line is superb, and the premise looks to be an entertaining series.

Crossing Lines is about a team of police officers from a variety of European countries and one guy from America who together solve cross-border crimes. As crime dramas go it's not bad, but not outstanding either. The first couple of episodes serve only to introduce the characters, but are otherwise pretty lame, and in parts excruciatingly badly written. At one point in episode 1, the American character is introduced by each of the others saying a fact about him - awfully artificial. In the second episode, while the team are on the trail of a serial killer who has kidnapped one of their colleagues, two of the characters indulge in idiotic flirting, totally at odds with the plot.

The series does improve as it goes on though, and by the end of the ten episodes I was left interested enough to want to see the next series.

The original dialogue is in English (this is a German DVD but you can select the original English audio) - however not all the actors speak good enough English. Marc Lavoine, the French actor who plays Louis, has English that is not only heavily accented but also delivered in a robotic way with no "feel" for the rhythm of the language. He is clearly a good actor but his English lets him down here. Tom Wlaschiha on the other hand is brilliant in his role as Sebastien (tech expert), and special mention should be made of William Fichtner who is outstanding as usual.

The locations are good (various across Europe), but don't expect too much accuracy - they travel around by either helicopter or high-speed Thalys trains, but often cover vast distances so quickly that you'd think they had the power of teleportation! They also seem to carry guns across borders with alarming ease! Lots that isn't realistic, but if you can ignore that then it's fairly entertaining overall.

It's quite unnerving to think that serial killers are no longer confined to one nation's concern, as shown in this riveting series, when a serial killer can operate in several countries and never be caught by any local police. The concept of an international body to track similar crimes committed in various countries is innovative and functions well in the series. The plots are tightly woven and reflect the direction humanity is travelling in.... a little disturbing. However they are gripping and the actors from Donald Sutherland's mastery to Gabriella Pession (brains & beauty) play their roles extremely well. More realistic than the similar USA type series of crime. Highly suggested
