"Crossed Swords" an overlooked gem., 7 Oct 2009

Any fan of Maurice Jarre's music would no doubt be quiet familar with the melodies presented in this particular movie soundtrack. A wide array of vibrant feelings and potent mood-swings are usually amply supplied when Mr. Jarre is assigned the task of fashioning suitably recognizable theater music for the occasion and in this case, this is especially true. The third track titled, "My King" moved me especially and then arrives various arrangements of the sweet composition initially accomplished with a harpsichord (an admitted weakness) each becoming more forceful, detailed, and dramatic, and further fortified by supplying a greater range of insrumentality until the final cresendo encompassing the summary orchestra complement arrives with the playing of track eight and that section is truly breathtaking. No less than several playings were required to satisfiy my interest. The movie itself, mostly obscure to the US market currently relegated to a long-forgotten category, was only partially succcessful to world audiences possibly a victim of a poorly executed initial release promotion based in Europe. Therefore, the music itself has completely disappeared. Some critics might argue that the tunes do not rate mentioning standing next to an earlier example of a Jarre produced musical score. That would be a mistake in my view because this composition merits a listening trial, not to be be dashed aside and overlooked because it is quite delightful nonetheless. Include it in your next listening audition. It will amply satisfy.
