I bought one of these one year as a gift for a friend who is a cross stitch fanatic and she absolutely loved it. It works well as a desk appointment diary, a calender, a cross stitch pattern "library" and as a decorative picture. The cross stitch patterns are varied, mixed & decent designs, a good size to work with, very clear and the threads indicated are easy to obtain. The appointment diary bit of the calendar might be a bit on the small side if it is to be used by several people and/or you lead a particularly busy life. It is entitled "Pattern-a-Day", which is a little misleading as it doesn't mean that you end up with 365 patterns as the weekend pages contain info. for the preceding weekday's patterns. Personally, I'm not bothered about this as there are more than enough patterns to be getting along with anyway, but others are so maybe the title needs to be rethought? The box itself is very sturdy and so will house and protect the patterns for years after the relevant year has passed. I see they also do similar calendars covering many other interests and hobbies so plenty more potential gifts for me to buy!

Just received this calendar today and on intially glancing through found there were some really good designs, but, and this is a BIG BUT, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WEEKENDS? It's supposedly a pattern a day calendar, yet there are no designs for any weekend in the year. Monday to Friday, yes, but definitely none for Saturdays or Sundays, just thread, dimensions and other info on these days but no designs. I am confused and a little annoyed at reading the blurb telling me I can stitch a new design every day when in actual fact there are patterns for weekdays only. Does the designer of this product assume nobody stitches at the weekend?

Wow! What a great set of patterns! 20 Aug. 2008

Every year for the past three years, I have bought myself the Cross Stitch Calendar. At first it was because I was just looking for more patterns to add to my collection, and last year it was because I was already used to having a new pattern a day to look at. However, I was very disappointed by the 2008 calendar. Many of the patterns were complicated, sometimes requiring as many as 25 different thread colors (Expensive on a college budget) and many of the patterns were too `Country Chic' for my tastes.

Happily, I decided to try one more time and I bought the 2009 Cross Stitch Calendar. Immediately I opened it and looked over all the images, and I was blown away. Firstly, many of the images are visually stunning. Many of the images are more modern than previous calendars. There are flowers, alphabets, samplers, and images for all holidays. In particular, Halloween has a skull and cross bones that is just plain cool, and perfect to add to a messenger bag! Also, most of the patterns only require about five colors of thread, making them much more financially possible on a budget.

As always, there is a full color image of the completed cross stitch on the front of the day, and the back contains the black and white pattern key. The weekend card tells you which colors of DMC thread you will need to complete the work. In the front of the box is a key showing the colors of all the DMC threads if you want to make substitutions, and it has cards with the months so you can write down important dates and birthdays.

This is the perfect calendar for anyone who is interested in cross stitch and it would make a great present. It has patterns for all levels, but the vast majority of these would be suitable for a beginner or anyone who is pressed for time (most of us are these days).

Highly recommended for cross stitch and craft fans!

I love this calendar! It has all kinds of themes for the year...alphabet, oriental symbols that are gorgeously done but small, animals, samplers....lots of fun! I had to do the rooster on the cover (on vinyl) and now he's done for my kitchen.
The charts don't say what color to use for fabric, but the pictures are very clear so it's obvious. Such great charts....very flexible/adaptable. I'll buy one for next year, too, even if I don't do many small projects. The inspiration is priceless.
