I was really suprised at this CD. Jane Greenoff and Sue Hawkins are some of the most talented stitchers and authors in the industry. This CD isn't up to their standards by any means and yet they made the choices that were included. It is supposed to be a selection of what they consider the best designs from the archives of the now defunct CSG Member's magazine publications. I shudder to think what was published but it may explain why the two publications only lasted from 2001 to
2006. The contents goes from outstanding and beautiful Samplers and Hardanger work to tacky 3 dimentional objects (and I mean tacky!). These are not just holiday ornaments either. There are small projects, at least one larger, very challenging, piece that would take a skilled stitcher some time to work and others in between. My 3 star review comes mostly from the 3 dimentional pieces...they are ugly and other included designs just aren't up to par either. There is another odd point on this CD. The color choices range from gorgeous and enhancing to garish in some instances. This is very unusual for both of these authors. Their use of color whether from soft analagous tones to a montage of brilliant beauty is usually spot on. Even if you do not care for the design or the colors themselves you seldom argue with their choices. Here you just may find that you do. On a positive note, there is a very interesting piece based on an interpretation of a Peruvian design and some traditional Samplers (small, medium and large) that are quite nice but I just can't go higher than a 3 on this CD. Sorry, but that's how I feel about it and I really wish I didn't. To be fair, I had really high expectations on this one and that may be part of why I find it so disappointing. But then again, these gals have really high reputations of excellence. Maybe if the authors were others? Nope. A 3 is the best I can do. And, yes, this was way over priced for it's content.
