Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

The Cross-City line is a suburban railway line predominantly in the West Midlands region of England. It runs from Redditch in Worcestershire, its southern terminus, to Lichfield, Staffordshire, and its northern terminus via Birmingham New Street.

There are 24 four stations in all covering some 30 - 40 miles of countryside, and passes through the centre of Birmingham calling at its main station "Birmingham New Street".

New Locos will be a Class 323 (which is the only unit currently running on this line). A selection of activities will also be included.

Opportunity Missed 5 April 2008
Fun:
Cross City, the new rail simulation to go along with the West Coast Express is beautifully crafted, cleverly presented, full of excellent material and well designed but is so utterly boring.

No surprises, nothing to make the mouth curl in an appreciative smile and certainly not an entertaining giggle anywhere. Here was a chance to make something memorable but the authors have failed miserably. Not one chance to explore off the beaten track, to find a little piece of magic or to appreciate a clever addition.

Buy by all means - you will have fun - but you will become bored very quickly.

Rubbish, a total waste 10 April 2008
Fun:
Im going to keep this short, playe the route a couple of times but it is utterly shocking.

The route bears very little resemblence to the real life cross city im afraid. How can you miss hundreds of houses out that are right along the line (comeing out of lichfield city) the extra track into the station, the missing shops down on the road! A multistory car park instead of houses, a bridge that is not even there, but then there are a few loations like that. Signals mis placed all together. stations not accomodating 6 car sets. Lack of real life features that are righ nexxt to the line. Cuttings where you should be on an embankment, spagetti junction is poor, no football grounds. Trackwork is poor and in some cases very out of place. Vegetation seems to have been placed on a - oh lets fill a gap basis. Aston Signalling centre? is it invisable? Lichfoeld High Level box? is that invisible too? 45 mph track when it should be 60 or vice versa, it is certainly not 125 thourgh lichfield stations. Let anone the other end of the line for a start, or in the middle!

I am gobsmacked by this, if you have never ever been on it before you wont know, been on it twice you will know what is wrong. I have travelled this many a times, probably hundereds over the past 3-5 years and it is shocking to see what has been produced here.

This review would be pages and pages long if i were to write it out and say everything this is by no means a great representation of the line, nor does it come near.

I would seriously consider not buying this because I feel I have wasted my money totally.

red signal passed????? 15 April 2008
Fun:
I have just purchased the cross city add on to add to all the others I have and Im not at all pleased with the new add on at all,
Main gripe is the lack of activities over and hour long there are just two thats the freight rescue one which is 1 hour long the other one is the birmingham New st to Lichfeild trent valley is 1 hour ten mins long.the other eight are only between 30 and 50 mins long, there are no through services from Redditch to Lichfeild Trent valley at all.
I agrree with the other reviewer that the scenery is a bit hit and miss more foliage than the buidings that should be there.
The other main thing is and its not a fault with my computor as Ive tried it on two different comps is the Measurement Train activitie From Lichfeild to Reditch every thing is o/k until I reach the platform in Birmingham New Street correct speed and Green lights showing all the way when up pops the little box saying activitie ended red signal passed this happens every time I have tried this activitie as I have said I have tried it on my main computor my second comp and also on my laptop same thing all the time so is this a fault on the simulation or what???
all in all the activities and the scenery could have been better but I suppose it passes the time when you have nothing better to do.
