4.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia's not what it used to be 19 Oct 2009
By Franimi

I approached this with a mixture of excitement and apprehension, it could easily have been a hand-held recording from halfway back(which is where I was on that day). I knew there was no band-approved release because they're on record as being mortified when they watched a playback next day. Well, bits of it do justify that reaction, but on the other hand the general quality is about as good as could be expected. It's just great to finally see it, warts and all. A couple of songs are spoiled by awful vocals fom Nash, who must have had trouble hearing himself, and Joni Mitchell really should have resisted the temptation to augment the harmonies, much as I venerate the woman, her contributions are a mess, particularly on Helpless and Judy Blue Eyes. The gig is appealingly shambolic but has some wonderful moments. In the end, nothing makes a more lasting impression than Mr Stills, who seems to have dropped in from Planet Coke. Boy, was he wired. He must have inhaled his share of the take just before going on. For better or worse, if you're a fan and/or were there, you should have this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Nostalgia 10 Oct 2009
By Gaff
It is 35 years since I sat on the centre spot at Wembley and spent a whole day listening to music; highlighted by CSNY at the end of the day. This DVD of the full concert was really great - sound & picture quality are generally very good.............the atmosphere and their great voices shine through.

Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young had almost a rock band could wish: very gifted singers, as well as songwriters and musicians alone or together.
Very capable acoustic or electric, each one with its own touch but able to perform as a band.
But life makes always its own work and notoriously with rock-stars: ego conflicts, abuses of different kinds, in fact all of that is there with that rare DVD.
Graham Nash felt chagrined, mortified listening to the tapes after that.
Well: it's not perfect but it remains a must have for any fan of this well named super group: it works.
May be the main flaws are elsewhere: unclear picture or between average and good and the sound just mono (obvious using headphones) no use to talk of Dolby digital 5+1 or DTS.
Yet filmed with different angles of views
To remember that event in 1974 was a reunion between the live" Four way streets" released in 1971 and the very comprehensive "CSN" of 1977.
A reunion and possibly a kind of peak for top performers like them.
It needs to enter in the limits of the product (sound and picture) and the turbulent cheerfulness of the event; the great skills of the musicians remain.
Another and usual trouble is the set-list but it's simply subjective and so not a perfect "best of" to date (1974) either for the group or each member.
The choice among their repertoire even in 1974 was already significant not to say: huge.
Immigration main and military madness with Nash on lead vocals are good, on the other hand his special tone (that belongs absolutely and distinctively to the vocals of CSN) is not absolutely and perfectly in tune, actually, it `s rock and roll and it's live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Concert 6 July 2011
This DVD has so much to offer; if nothing else, the shear volume of footage make it a worthwhile purchase. Each of the four members gets the chance to shine; Stephen Stills's love the one your with and the epic performance of Neil Young's Don't be Denied are stand-out tracks. It is such great footage, mainly for the chance to see the guys that wrote and recorded these classic songs performing them live with gusto; no performance on this DVD can be described as lack-lustre. OK so it could have done without Joni Mitchell's warbling on a couple of tracks, and the sound quality isn't great, but the point is it captures the spirit of the time. It is a pleasure to see musicians giving it their all and looks being irrelevant; there's not a whiff of the marketing driven nonsense in today's music, sorry image, business; no women with long shiny legs or men with their tops off wearing gold jewellery in this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the facts 25 May 2012
Just a brief note to clarify - this is a pro-shot multi-camera film with soundboard audio. It's the London, Wembley stadium gig.
Those of us who were a hundred yards away (and/or on memory-impairing drugs) will love the chance to see the show from close-to! And for any other CSNY fans, where else can we find a whole show, pro-shot? Good or bad performance doesn't really matter, it's the ONLY one we can see now.
Neil Young does a fine version of "Don't Be Denied", and the rare "Pushed It Over The End", electric, in the second half, must-see for Rusties.
There are torrents of this available, have been for years, which are perfectly good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A creative and artistic peak 12 Nov 2009

Though the CSNY tours of the 21st. century (00,02,06) were magnificent, much better than the rather lame official release "Deja Vu Live" hints at, I feel that the grueling 74 tour might have been their creative and artistic peak.

This show - as far as I am informed originally a BBC recording - seems to dismiss many of the myths around this tour which generally is mostly known for the acronomy amongst the four and the massive drugintakes, orgies etc.. Whatever the feelings between these four megatalented songwriters, vocalists, musicians, it certainly does not come across on stage. Here on the final concert it's all smiles and hugs and good vibrations. And Neil who apparently traveled on his own definitely is part of the band, one of four artist sharing the stage.

Lots of great music of course though some of Neil's 'new' songs are a bit thin. A stellar backing band with Russ Kunkel, Tim Drummond and Joe Lala. The gorgous Joni Mitchell stepping in from time to time with some vocal magic.

And yes, they are probably more or less 'wasted' all four, surprisingly the notoriuos Crosby looks the cleanest. But well let's face it, drugs can and do - sometimes - enhance creativity. And specially Stills shows what a fantastic guitarist he was (and still is check his Live at Shepherd's Bush), at this time he was very much the man in charge.

Lets hope for some official releases from this historic tour. Rumours have it, that Graham Nash is working on the case.
