I bought this book with little knowledge of crotchet, just the basics. It is really clearly written, for left and right handers, and unlike other books I have read, this one is not the least bit confusing when describing the many stitches it teaches you. It takes you through the creation of an afghan, one block at a time, with each block using a range of different stitches, and before you know it you're an expert at all these lovely effects. There are also lots of patterns in the book which look great. I'm not fussed about the hats, but the jumpers and cardigans, etc, look lovely, and I'm going to try one of those next. If you are new to crochet, or you know a thing or two already, this book is just what you want. I'm really pleased with it, and recommend it most sincerely.

Good technical advice 9 July 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
If the projects in this book had been in my taste, I would probably have rated it (much) higher. As it is now, I'd rate it one star from page 122 and onwards (the projects part), but at least four stars for the first half of the book, which contains excellent technical explanations, very well illustrated, and plenty of tips and different stitches (some of them completely unknown to me until now).

clear instructions 5 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
As a beginer to crochet I found this book very helpful, with clear pictures and instructions. Also shows the instructions for left handed folks. I would recommend this book for beginers and people wanting to refresh their skills.

Maybe if I have any problems with the book and other American books is the need to find the equivalant yarns for the projects. There is a good chart for hook sizes included, but not the yarns.

I think some of the patterns are a bit dated but there are hats, scarves, afgans and a bag which will give a good knowledge of the stitches needed to make other more up to date items.
