Book Description

1 Sep 2009
Known for her signature use of color, crochet designer Kathy Merrick shares her secrets to designing with color in unique and unexpected ways in Crochet in Color. Merrick offers 17 patterns that explore a variety of ways to play with color that will build your crochet color confidence. With a long list of projects encompassing wearables to various home decor projects, all of Merrick's designs in Crochet in Color are made with fine yarns and big hooks to achieve a crochet fabric that is fluid and never stiff. And because Merrick focuses on simple shapes and less intricate designs, her projects are perfect for all crochet skill levels to create sophisticated and fun designs that play with color. Crochet in Color encourages you to shake their fears of experimenting with color, design outside the color wheel, and make unique color combinations work. Merrick also explains how to change colors in crochet, stranding techniques, and how to work over yarn tails. Plus, there are various tips and tricks, such as a proportion guide to working color bands and easy ways to finish your work. The definitive guide to crocheting in color, Crochet in Color is a must if you want to add colorwork to your crochet resume with confidence.

Review

Subtitled Techniques and Designs for Playing With Color, this book is a must for crocheters looking to work in color. I love the cardigan on the front cover and there's a nice hat pattern, some scarves and more. I must say that I am not too fond of the pattern designs, but for learning the techniques, this book is very good. Discover how to crochet stripes, colour blocks and more besides. This compact 128 page book has full colour photos, easy to follow patterns and a get started section too.-KarenPlatt.co.uk If you want to play with colour combinations in your crochet projects, this book will tell you everything you need to know. The patterns are full of colours and textures that work together to amazing effect, like lavender and brick-red, used here in a Spanish-style shawl where lavender flowers pop out almost three-dimensionally from a red background; or a textured scarf in many variegated yarns which, contrary to popular wisdom, make a fancy-stitch pattern stand out. The author explains how she gets her own colour ideas from her travels and surroundings - an inspiration to all crocheters.-AllAboutYou.com If you aren't very brave with colour then this is a great book to boost your confidence and get you working with more vibrant shades. Filled with lots of lovely images to get your creative juices flowing, this book will most certainly encourage you to either try your hand at some of the projects included, or apply some of the colourwork to future crochet ventures. The focus is on a fluid fabric with simple shapes and designs. Each project is accompanied with clear instructions and helpful hints. Though most are farily lengthy projects, there's lots to get stuck into, including home decor as well as wearables, and with all those gorgeous colours, you won't get bored.-Inside Crochet

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 26 Nov 2009
By Bamboo
Format:Paperback
One of the few crochet books I am not ashamed to take out of my bag at a coffee shop.
And of the 17 projects, only one makes me cringe. This is a rare book to have 16 projects spot on and not the other way around!
Beautiful colours, I would have bought her book a long time ago if I had known what was in it. I am not surprised that Interweave Crochet publishes her designs regularly. I wish there were more books like hers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very modern and stylish 18 May 2010
Format:Paperback
I bought this book as I want to move on from making hats, scarves and blankets and make sometime more of a challenge. There are some stunning projects in this book and I think that I would wear all but one of them which is a coat that I feel is a bit dated. If you want something to move onto from simple projects then I fully recommend this book - I can't wait to get started!

4.0 out of 5 stars Colourful insights! 15 April 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
A useful addition to my growing collection of books about crochet; it has given me a lot to think about - especially as I am less than confident when putting different colours together!
