Product Description

Sandy Devanche considers himself to be a five star gentleman, although he never gives more than three.

As the harshest food critic in the business, he is feared and respected by the top chefs of the city. On a standard assignment, Sandy visits the experimental restaurant The House of Jacob, run by chef extraordinaire, Jacob Enfer.

What Sandy will experience is a journey beyond flavour and texture, a meal that will change his very existence. The worst thing about the food here is the person eating it.

Critique. It's here to make your life better… or much, much worse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unusual 24 May 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Really enjoyed this. I have no idea why i chose it, but it was well worth the time/money.

I don't want to say too much about the story line as its best left for your gradual discovery/enjoyment, as this is how i encountered the book and it didn't dissappoint.

The start of book really threw me and i almost quit reading as it was strangely written. It starts with a man telling a story (which was the writing style i didn't enjoy too much) But the story being told itself was an interesting and intriguing read.

How i would describe this book; Unusual, unique, well written and thought provoking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read! 15 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Critique by Daniel I. Russel is the latest book I have read from Dark Continents Publishing. I have come to expect good things from that small press, and Critique doesn't disappoint. It is a story of redemption, although perhaps not the kind that most people would want. It starts out with a man, recently released from prison, who is continuing down the wrong path in life. He makes a stop at a diner and is treated to a rather interesting story from another character that will make most readers reconsider having dinner.
This is the first thing I have read by Russel, but it won't be the last. He has an enjoyable writing style that drew me right into the story from the beginning. It is a book that took me down a path that I wasn't quite expecting based on the beginning. Good read on an empty stomach and recommended for horror lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible! 14 Mar 2012
By David
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
No spoilers - a story of an unsatisfied food critic with major personal issues who is brought low by his corrosive addiction to chef Enfer's food. A dark tale of nihilistic redemption.

I absolutely love this book! Well done to Daniel I Russell for an excellent story, unmarred by the usual spelling and grammatical mistakes so common in lots of the ebooks. His writing is evocative and pulls no punches in its delivery. He rolls the seven deadly sins into one all encompassing and consuming 'SIN.'

Really, really powerful writing that will disgust, amuse and horrify you. A little like the Tales of the Unexpected series but violently brought up to date. I shall definitely be buying anything else that Mr Russell has written on the strength of this book alone.
