Book Description

1 Oct 2009 Severn House Large Print
It started out as a kidnap, turned into a brutal murder and ended up as a plot to assassinate the American State Secretary...DCI Henry Christie, taken off an anonymous murder case and transferred into a dead-end desk job, leaps at the chance to investigate the brutal killing of an ex-cop turned sleazy private eye. At first Christie thinks he will have no trouble identifying the killer, but as he investigates, he stumbles into a plot by Muslim extremists and finds himself plunged into the world of international terrorism. Christie faces his toughest challenge yet as he tries to head off one of the world's most ruthless assassins who has never yet been caught - and who has never yet missed a target.

Review

"Deviously twisted plotting, genuine suspense, and an engaging, emotionally complex character, the result is a book - and indeed a series - that's a gripping, hugely entertaining success." Booklist on Critical Threat "Oldham takes the taut pacing, gripping suspense, and hard-edged plotting that readers have come to expect from the best British procedurals and adds a fresh twist. A touch of James Ellroy thrown into a John Harvey-style procedural makes a powerful combination" Booklist on Psycho Alley "Oldham, a real-life copper, offers a story full of dark menace, gritty realism, and graphic violence. Add head-spinning action and surprising plot twists, and the result is a gripping, gut-wrenching thriller" Booklist on Big City Jacks"

5.0 out of 5 stars Do I detect a sharper edge? 28 Sep 2007
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have now read all of the Christie series. I feel this one is probably one of the best. Only one real external, (to the police) character re-appears, and he is not the usual informant.
At some stages I wondered if the book contained an element of collaboration? However I was pleased to read aspects of actions and feelings that only a detective, who has experienced them, could really relate.
Only one aspect in the latter stages, had me wondering if Christie, really would have sought to have safeguarded the rights of one in the intersts of many? to say more would spoil it for the potential reader.
Could not really put down. Crisp and to the point, the story moves at great pace without missing important aspects of policing.Every page is of interest. How he has merged to story lines is very good.
Hope there are more to come!
