Review

When teaching for the OCR AS-level course I found this an ideal book - the right depth for teachers and the right length for students. It is written with such obvious enthusiasm for lucid and practical thinking that it can be recommended to teachers and students in any field. --Roger Sutcliffe, Chairman, Sapere

A really useful introduction to developing and improving a core skill --Association of Commonwealth Universities

I love Roy van den Brink-Budgen's work. I used to teach AS Critical Thinking, and used the first edition of this book as the main text for my students. This 4th edition is even better - providing a wonderfully accessible guide for anyone wanting to improve their critical thinking (understanding reasoning and argument) - be they student or adult. Highly recommended.

Don't bother 3 Dec 2011

What a disappointment. The author spends so much time on the minutae of giving examples, you forget the point he made two pages previously. Very badly written. Also, I'm not impressed by the way he uses his book to slag off other authors of the same topic. Not good form.
Do yourself a favour and spend your money elsewhere. I wish I had.

Great resource 28 Nov 2011
By Doe N - Published on Amazon.com
Great resource to develop critical thinking skills quickly. This book is short (about 100 pages), concise, has examples to facilitate the understanding of the materials. Chapter 10 sums up some good points on how to produce a good argument (coherence, consistence, significance of the claims).
