Product Description

Review

'Jenny Moon’s book, Critical Thinking will occupy a prominent position in my bookshelf along with her other books on reflections, journal writing, and short course management. This book ensures the reader quickly understands critical thinking along with its research and theory. The practical resources to help teachers facilitate critical thinking will be of immeasurable help.'

Jocelyn Lockyer, Associate Dean, Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development, University of Calgary, Canada

Jenny Moon has skilfully mapped the landscape of critical thinking with academic diligence and practical acuity. Using the concept of 'academic assertiveness', she reveals how particular emotional and psychological orientations and behaviours better enable learners to manage the challenges to self when progressing critical thinking capacities in academic, professional and social contexts. Through the reliable voice of the author's own experiences, readers are introduced to a useful array of resources, activities and ideas designed to promote active engagement, augment cultural and contextual knowing and enhance the potential of learners to think and act critically.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great resource for teachers who need to teach critical thinking., 20 Mar 2008
By Dean F. Sheetz "SlowBow" (Dubai) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Critical thinking is a term used all too frequently in the world of education but not easily defined or understood. This book looks at different definitions of critical thinking from many different sources to develop one comprehensive definition. During this process, different aspects of critical thinking are explored. This takes slightly more than half of the book.

The remainder of the book looks at critical thinking from multiple pedagogical/andragogical perspectives in order to deliver to teachers a large arsenal of possible ways to approach critical thinking in the classroom and beyond. There is also a large section of resources that can be adapted to classroom use.

Overall, this book is a very good reference for teachers.
