Product Description

Product Description
This social work text is conceived as a complementary volume to "Social Work: Themes, Issues and Critical Debates", although it is usable as a stand-alone introduction in its own right. Focusing on social work values, on areas of particular practice (ranging across work with children, families and vulnerable adults) and on management issues relevant to all social workers whether they are managers or not, it offers an overview both of the practicalities of social work and the principles underpinning practice.

About the Author
ROBERT ADAMS is Professor of Human Services Development, attached to the Policy Research Centre, University of Lincolnshire and Humberside, Hull, and Visiting Professor of Social Work, University of Teesside. He has worked in social work and criminal justice settings and is the author of a number of books, including Social Work and Empowerment and Quality Social Work. - LENA DOMINELLI is Professor of Social and Community Development at Southampton University and President of the International Association of Schools of Social Work. She has worked as a social worker, probation officer and community worker and has written 14 books, including Anti-Racist Social Work (second edition) and Sociology for Social Work. - MALCOLM PAYNE is Professor of Applied Community Studies, Head of the Department of Applied Community Studies, Manchester Metropolitan University, having previously worked in probation, social services and the national and local voluntary sector. 5.0 out of 5 stars Critical Practice in Social Work, 12 Feb 2004
By A Customer
How many assignments have you tackled that ask you to critically review or evaluate practice? In my experience every single one. This book is the answer. It comprehensively covers all areas of Social Work Practice and invites the reader to grow professionally and personally as it offers an insight into the reflective skills needed to be an effective, transformingly critical practioner.

The book is helpfully structured into sections with easy to dip into chapters which is invaluable when looking for references. I especially liked the conclusions at the end of each chapter which give a clear synopsis of the contents. The list of contributors is an impressive who's who of contemporary, social work authors.

I'm glad I have added it to my bookshelf and consider it and its companion, Social Work: Themes, Issues and Critical Debates, essential reading.
