Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

As with his guitar-playing partner in Pentangle, John Renbourne, Bert Jansch has always been a musician more in tune with his colleagues (Neil Young, Noel Gallagher, Nick Drake and Jimmy Page have all sung his praises) than the massed ranks of the record-buying public. Crimson Moon--his 21st solo album--is unlikely to trouble the chart compilers at Guinness but will do more than cement his position as one of the country's most natural musicians. Fittingly enough, those two great guitar-playing misfits and long-time fans Bernard Butler and Johnny Marr are featured heavily, eschewing their usual electric heroics in favour of the sombre acoustic mood that pervades the album. Jansch sounds world-weary but defiant--an echo of the young man evident on the 10-track Best Of that makes up disc two. His style has changed little over the years, a combination of acoustic blues picking, jazz dabblings and dark, passionate song writing. Nearly 40 years on from his first release, Jansch is still ploughing his own unassuming furrow--Crimson Moon is self-produced and features both his wife Loren and son Adam--and making class music for class music's sake. --Phil Udell

I was lured in by the free 10 track CD not particularly hoping to get such a great album. Looking for love is an excellent brooding blues, Williamson's October song is Bertrified to beauty and the dadgad fans will be pleased as punch with the results, if you like Pentangle/ISB/Zep or fancy a good old fashioned folk album with a modern production without intrusion then you canna go wrong here.

4 stars, 5 if he'd asked Danny Thompson along. This is a great addition to Wyrdfolk.

An excellent album: great song-writing and quality guitar playing - as you would expect from Bert Jansch.

Caledonia. Very nostalgic for anybody lucky enough to visit the Highlands. Down under. Breath-taking guitar playing.

The bundled greatist hits CD an added bonus!
