CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMPLETE SERIES ONE AND TWO Two cases; two murders; two people who must live with the actions and consequences of one night for the rest of their lives. In CRIMINAL JUSTICE, starring Ben Whishaw Pete Postlethwaite Bill Paterson and Con O Neill, 21-year-old Ben borrows his Dad s black cab for a night out. When a sexy young woman mistakenly climbs into the back, they set out for a night of adventure. Ben wakes the following morning, unable to recall much of the night before, to find that his previously ordinary life is about to be torn apart. He is arrested, charged with murder and thrown headlong into the criminal justice system - a system where the truth is optional and what counts is how well you play the game. And in CRIMINAL JUSTICE II starring Maxine Peake Matthew Macfadyen Sophie Okonedo and Denis Lawson; How does Juliet Miller come to kill her respected barrister husband while their daughter sleeps just a few feet away? Once the act has been committed, she finds that she has set in motion a chain of events as hard and unbreakable as any the law can offer. Travelling through the criminal justice system, her guilt isn t questioned but her motives are. As the case passes from Family Court to Crown Court, the blunt force of criminal justice is felt from beginning to end.

I bought this series because I'm a fan of Maxine Peake - she's brilliant in Silk (highly recommend) - but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of both of these stories. The scripts, storylines and acting are excellent. Ben Whishaw plays the role of, at times, a completely bewildered "victim" to perfection and Maxine Peake excels as a mother who's loyalty to her daughter and controlling husband is palpable. I highly recommend this collection.

I highly recommend this collection. Ben Whishaw was so great in his role, Maxine Peak also, as well as Sophie Okonedo! What a great story, strong, daring and provoking! Thanks God there are so excellent British TV series!

Very good drama series, although the first series had, in my opinion, a far more fleshed out storyline. I would actually give the first series a 5 star but the second series a four star.

We hadn't seen this series on tv, but the title and reviews looked promising enough to buy the set.
However, where we had expected a dramatised legal battle, we watched one gratuitously and explicitly depicting the horrors of prison life, and the other a kind of monosyllabic hopelessness. Not for us. (Pete Postlethwaite was up to his usual standard though)

As a family we really enjoyed watching this series as we did not see it when it was on TV. Excellent characterisation, gritty in parts.
